Is there any alternative for Fraps?

Fraps is freezing so often during the recording of video in GZDoom.

If you have an nvidia graphics card, the driver has a built in capture system incorporated in the GeForce experience application.

OBS? It's pretty much the go to record tool now.

Pretty much this.

It does a lot better job than Fraps, is a lot more customisable, free, and even lets you stream directly to Youtube or Twitch. Also has live post-processing and overlays which are really handy if you post videos a lot and want to brand them.

I haven't used OBS for some time. Looking at their website, it seems to have come on quite a bit since I last tried it.

A lot of internet streams you see nowadays are created in OBS. If you have a multi-monitor setup it's even better because OBS allows you to project to that monitor and then you can see what your viewers see. Admittedly, that's something I need to do more often when I do streams.

It's not working for me. Winx64, NVidia GTX 750 Ti
OBS?
Thanks, I will try!

I'm pretty much sold on MOVAVI

It's fairly inexpensive and has all the features one could want.

Camtasia is just too expensive for the occasional use.

I personally prefer Bandicam, but I mostly don't use it for screen capturing, but because it features a built-in variable FPS limiter which can be bound to any key. Also, the free version has watermarks and other superimposed limits. So for your needs I'd too suggest OBS :)

Edit: IIRC Fraps isn't updated anymore, is it?

Correct. It's been on version 3.5.99 for something like 5 years. IIRC there is something different in current operating systems that is incompatible with what FRAPS was set up to take advantage of... or something like that.

OBS or Bandicam can also work together with DOS games? I noticed that several recording software just gives up, when I tried to record fullscreen DosBox (Growler Gun Cam worked tho). And yes, I know DosBox has a built-in recorder, but its results are sometimes garbage.

If your DOSBox game does not require mouse input you can just project its window preview to your screen and then alt-tab to it. Then you never actually have to run it in fullscreen, except it will still appear that way to you.

OBS can capture basically anything with a pulse in one way or another, it's just a bit fiddly. Bandicam works too, but it'll require you to change your DOSbox config to output video using OpenGL or Direct3D or whatever.

Personally, I use Bandicam where I can due to it handling windowed games nicely, and Shadowplay for full-screen capturing and capping stuff that I wasn't planning on happening.

I see. Hmmm. What about windowed stuff? Growler Gun Cam had a pretty awesome feature, lettin' me to define the size of the capture area with mouse cursor. This was...effective, I liked it. I hope Bandicam or OBS can do the same, as, well, some games or applications do not utilize fullscreen, and I would rather not capture the entire desktop of mine, if it is not absolutely necessary.
