I don't give a flying [insert suitable expletive here] about the GMan.
When I caught occasional, easily missable, glimpses of him in the first game I thought it was very cool, mysterious and really fuelled my intrigue about him. A nice little "I wonder what that's all about" treat for those who spotted him. When he became more explicitly revealed and he was shown to be this untouchable, god-like representative of whatever, I really stopped caring and actually flipped across to hating his inclusion (plus whatever he represents - I don't care) and feeling that he detracts from the game - to the point of significantly reducing my desire to replay it.
I utterly despise complete screw-over "there's nothing you can do about it" mechanics in a game. The whole point of me playing most games is that I
can do something about it. I thought the GMan character screwed me over in a particularly invidious way that cheapened everything, all the time and effort, that I had put into the game up to that point only to find that some overseer was calling all the shots with a real Emperor Sheev Palpatine attitude of "everything that has transpired has done so according to my design". Screw that guy. Throw the GMan down a reactor shaft or something.
