simple trig doesn't work here, think about it carefully, even if you're facing a wall dead on (your look vector is perfectly perpendicular to the wall), the rays cast to the edges of your screen have to travel a longer distance than the ray parallel to your look. vector. This is where projection comes into play in most graphics systems.Dancso wrote:This isn't how you make a column renderer.
I had fun putting this together though. No tutorials/articles used on "how to render scenes", i just used simple trigonometry and a simulated field of vision.
Next thing I would do is probably project from the shape of an "eye" rather than a single point, which might help with the distortion.
I could reproduce the math from Fabien Sanglard's Wolfenstein 3D engine book, but from the sounds of things you don't quite want to see that for this project, so I won't.

Re: The Still New What Did You Last Do Thread

I built a gunpla kit recently that is supposed to look like the Vanguardroid MK3 from my old Doom mod, Lizard Squad. I know it doesn't look exactly like it, but this was something I wanted to do for a while. I just didn't have the motivation until my local hobby shop had announced a Gundam Build Fighters themed gunpla competition.
More pics of my build here

At last, I have A Flame to the Ground Beneath!
Amazon, having realized that they weren't getting any more stock in, cancelled and refunded my order, then suggested I check third-party sellers there. No way I'm paying more than what I was originally ordering the new CD for to get an "Acceptable" one.
Headed to eBay, where I got a hell of a deal on a "used" copy (still in plastic wrap, veeeeeeeery slight cosmetic damage) from a seller in Aussieland. Came to a little less than the original Amazon order I think, and only wanted $0.01 for shipping (which I thought was reasonable).

NeuralStunner, your avatar... seems familiar. It's from some film I watched a long time ago, but I don't remember the name of the film, nor the character... Who is it?
From what I remember, it's some bad guy?

I'm seeing more and more articles all ending with some kind of doomsday prediction, seems likle a mad max like future world is getting more realistic except that the cause will be global warming and not a nuclear war.

This seems vaguely political...I think we have quite a few years before anything like that happens, rest assured.

Don't dismiss nuclear war out of hand: https://www.amazon.com/Commission-Repor ... 079VDR6HM/

I just did a count, and I have 10 trench coats, 6 dusters, 4 wool overcoats, 3 ponchos, and 6 cowboy hats. I lost my favorite wool coat though.

I am now convinced you are a hitman.
