An Icon!

Post by Chilvence »

Ok, its been 5 years or more with the marine sprite now. I really don't think it does Zdoom much justice, it just looks like a placeholder really for a proper icon. I wouldn't be surprised if alot of people replace it with something different or even make their own at home - with that in mind, I'm going to offer up my own as a replacement. Here it is: hyperspace bypass link I made them while I was messing with the source, and now I've got used to the fact I can pick zdoom.exe out of a crowded folder :).

If you dont wan't to use it, no worries, but I just thought I would see whether you wanted it or not. Personally I think any change would be for the better. Make it the cacodemon for a few months, or try and do an animated impse icon .

And if anyone else wants to do the same (I'm looking at you Torm :D ), this thread could become an icon contest. We'll see what comes of it :)

Heh, yes, I've changed the icon in the past. Your new one looks good - even in 16x16. A lot less good in 16 colours though, but then what doesn't. ;) Anyone use 16 colour icons?

Aaaanyway, it doesn' really say Doom anymore, but then with Zdoom supporting so many games, perhaps it shouldn't. Question is, does the icon say zed, zee or zeta (runs). :laff:

Obviously, it's pronounced zeedeta :)

Yes, ugly 16*16 icons do make me feel sore, if only because they look like vomit on the taskbar. I always tweak mine manually. And I thought Zdoom is well known enough by now to be recognisable by a zimple zeedeta ;)

hm, well i had a go at making my own icon, however, i have no idea how to set something to be a "true" icon, so im stuck with a BMP, set with a background colour and the filetype named to ico, works... kinda, but not how its supposed to

if you could fix it for me, if you know how, id be very thankful

Heh, let me know when you get round to that one. All the ones I've found are hideous bloatware. And not one of them had the idea that it might be nice to see all the different sizes/colour depths on screen at once? Blech.

Liquidicon is a damn good, small, easy, free editor. It's all you need for icons

How can looks throw something? As far as I know, a look has no hands, so it's not like it can pick up a random object and chuck it across the room. :P

Anyway, this Icon looks good and, IMO, it's alot better than the standard DoomGuy icon, which is used just about everywhere now... heh. :P
