[WIP]Gundam/Anime Mecha Doom Mod: Version 0.2

Hello, all! I figured as my first post to the forums, I'd contribute somewhat to the list of projects we have here. This is my first "official" gameplay mod for GZdoom (I have made other mods, just never felt good enough to upload them), and I'd just like to give a rundown of what it's all about (With pictures!)

UPDATE 0.2: RX-78 class has been added, currently being worked on!

This mod is all about playing as big stompy robots from mecha TV shows and raising hell throughout your favorite doom levels. As of right now, there is a total of one class that is almost fully implemented (Zaku 2), along with another that is in the process of being coded in (RX-78). Now, how about them screenshots? (No new ones for the RX-78 yet

Known issues: Not really an "Issue", but I have yet to fill in all the regular doom weapon slots.

What needs to be done: Replace the rest of the weapons (Chaingun, BFG, Supershotgun, Chainsaw), I also need to start work on cleaning up the sprites.

Compatibility note: I have only tested it with GZdoom, unsure on my version but it's a very recent one. May not work on Zdoom.

I actually had the same idea a couple years ago. I didn't really get too far with my mod though. You got to play as a Jegan D Type or a Zaku 2 F2. The Jegan was more or less complete (you can use the beam rifle, beam saber and the shield) and the Zaku 2 F2 only had its Zaku machine-gun.

Oh yeah! I saw that mod, and it was actually my inspiration for this one. I even credited you in the mod TXT file for giving me the idea of using model kits for the weapons!

Hey, promising idea! I always love Gundam franchise. It's so amazing, yet has some ancient yet cool SFX to go around with. Good to see some Gundam-based doom mod like this one.

Would be hella amazing if you can play as other MS like guncannon and gouf. And maybe Ball and Zakrello. :P

I am planning on adding those, it'll just take a bit for me to figure everything out. Currently I'm mostly working on getting the dummy class to.. not, be a dummy class.

One of my dreams on doom modding was to ride a gundam on normal doom levels.
I guess this dream is gonna come true soon :')

Glad you're liking the idea so far! I could certainly use all the support I can get, so I'll be sure to contact you. Godspeed, and let's hope that someday this mod is finished- I myself have always wanted to use big stompy robots in doom levels!

Wouldn't it make more sense for the Zeon class to be a Sazabi if it's supposed to be a mobile suit that can keep up with the RX-78?

Well, it would, but I have a crippling addiction to zakus. Also totally not thinking up ways to implement the Sazabi for a later class. Nope. Not a dang mod spoiler in this post.

Now that I got to play around with this mod a little bit, I gotta say that it's not a bad start. At least the Zaku 2 in your mod has more weapons than in mine, haha.

It would be nice if the Zaku Machinegun had a faster rate of fire. The sprites themselves look kind of dark and a bit jagged. I'd suggest using taking pics in a brighter light setting and going in to Photoshop and try to clean up any messy pixels. Also, the animations need to be a little smoother. You can definitely add some more frames for some of the weapons, especially the Heat Hawk. Are you using a Master Grade kit or a HGUC kit? I went into the basic methods of what I did to get the sprites in my mod's thread in case you are interested.

I'm using HGUCs since those are all I had, and yeah I'm gonna be adding some additional heat hawk frames. I kind of like the "jagged" aesthetic, I think it adds character, but I see what you mean and probably will clean them up in a pixel art editor. As for better lighting, I probably should, but this is honestly the best I can do for now (in terms of lighting). And as for the Zaku MG's ROF, definitely, that's gonna be fixed in the next update.

What's been added:
Viewbob, courtesy of Caligari87 (Lewisk3 handed me the code)

The Gundam weapons!

Rebalancing for all the weapons, recoil on the rocket launchers is less extreme, and the zaku machinegun isn't a worthless piece of junk anymore.

More of the weapons have been replaced!

Walk sounds for the RX-78, I've left the zaku without walk sounds so y'all can compare them and see which you prefer.

If y'all have any weapons suggestions, feel free to PM me- I'm looking for possible replacements for the other weapons (SuperShotgun, BFG, Chainsaw, Chaingun)
