What is to come after flash drives?

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

Flash drives are perfect for day-to-day file portability, but you may find yourself paying far more for ones of a sufficiently large capacity. If what you need to back up is an entire internal hard drive, flash drives in the 512 GB or 1 TB range can run you as much as $450-700. Compared to a 1 TB Western Digital My Passport - a reliable USB 3.0 portable hard drive that gets great reviews - that's about ten times the price (the Passport goes for $40-60 depending on what color it is). External solid-state drives (of the same form factor as external hard drives, not the tiny thumb drives) are only very slightly cheaper than their thumb-sized equivalents, running $170-350 for drives ranging between 512 GB and 1 TB.

As nice as solid-state storage is for reliability and speed, magnetic-platter hard disk drives are still cheaper per gigabyte by a long shot.

Yeah, these flash drives are rather expensive, but they've been so reliable for me. I've had a 256 GB one for two years now, and will probably have to wait 1 to 2 more for the 512 GB to be affordable. I usually wait till they are between $50 and $60.
