Re: Hideous Destructor [Release version 3.2.5]
The ladder i truly think could do everything the grappling hook could, and more, with a few tweaks : on a stream with knox, we talked about possibly allowing the ladder to go vertically and horizontally, functioning as a bridge too.
The current setup, while amazing, seems very limited : i cannot for instance, climb the large boxes on the range, despite it only being a few feet higher. I would think you could lift up that high considering the massive length.
Though this brings a question : is the ladder a rigid, folding ladder, or a roll up cloth ladder? I suppose it would make sense being more wonky if it was cloth, but if it was rigid, you could certainly use it as a bridge, right?
I think this would be an amazing idea and enable all kinds of sequence breaking fun, if this were the case, and would be an even more amazing item.
I was curious, how possible it could be if the ladder instead worked like a projectile pointed out to any point, allowing one to bridge a pit, or reach up with the same process, detecting impact point relative to the immediate geometry, and the person using it, to establish a ladder / bridge from this point. I know this obviously wouldn't work with a rolled up ladder, but with a rigid, titanium ladder, properly hardened and treated, i wonder if you could still get something that could function while being still around 20 yards
Perhaps this is asking too much, but the idea of making bridges over slime, pits, or other hazards seems too interesting to not at least mention.
And even if titanium doesn't work, i feel many near future items could work.

I figure maybe some or a combination of these materials might make a foldable, rigid ladder that fits into a backpack A reality
By the way, why the removal of the yokai? Are they coming back? I don't understand why a spriting issue justifies its removal, it was a cool monster, and frankly i would find it fitting if the yokai gradually inflicted blursphere like hallucinations.. Like maybe the blursphere is a special yokai?
Blursphere has odd interactions, on the range, i noticed if i use it and summon monsters, many will kill themselves, the 2 bosses will attack the range end, and the cyberdemon rockets barely even move.i also noticed cyberdemons rockets have no hitbox, which is odd.

Re: Hideous Destructor [Release version 3.2.5]
It was intended to be a roll-up, though the sprites make it look rigid.
I never liked the yokai. A medusa-like subtle horror that you could never quite look at sounds really cool on paper but in actual play they always just felt to me like a dismal nuisance of a profoundly unimpressive sort. I'd had half a mind to make them use more conventional projectiles for a while, but I'd spent so much effort getting the damage balance right I never could bring myself to do it without getting rid of them wholesale.
Blursphere does give you an evil eye that you can drive monsters to madness with.
What happens to the cyberdemon rockets is definitely a bug though. (Monsters killing themselves was also unintentional but it seemed fitting enough to leave as is the way it works against cyberdemons is grossly OP and stupid looking)

i liked the yokai. even if they weren't exactly threatening i found them to be effective in setting the tone. they felt like a creepy sort of lovecraftian madness-driving monster which i think adds to the overall tone of being stuck in an otherworldly hostile environment (not to mention they also managed to jumpscare me on occasion).

Re: Hideous Destructor [Release version 3.2.5]
Agreed, yokai REALLY broke up the somewhat monotony of monsters who are a huge threat by themselves, and served well as an auxiliary unit to suppress / mess with players without being an annoying, near instant kill like almost all other enemies. I've died to yokai indirectly countless times, and the fact they are both serious pests but not exactly easy to kill made them fit a much needed niche
They also fit well as a spooky factor, being a threat that wasn't physical (and thus easy to kill) but ethereal. Even being a minor threat they felt pretty un'nerving in a very different (good) way, and i frankly don't see the justification in removing them. They were good at what they were, which were basically poltergeists. If you want a suggestion to make them more a threat, how about making them pick up small objects / corpses when out of view, and chucking them at the player for minimal damage? You could even make them prefer to hide and do this, to up the pest factor, and make them slightly more threatening, especially as it would be an enemy with an indirect attack, able to hurt you despite you being unable to see it. Or even, if you really feel mean, make them very clumsily pick up guns and attempt to fire them with the dexterity of a toddler? A shotgun floating and spinning a little, struggling to get even a decent shot with a shotgun beyond the basic direction, and slow to operate sounds both terrifying and entertaining. (and obviously, players could yank the gun out of the ghostly hands
Oh, and if you are so eager to add more difficulty... What if masterminds could hack herps, derps and ieds over time, starting by just lagging them / causing software failures, but eventually taking control?

What do I do to pull up ladders if I use 'Toggle Crouch'?

Re: Hideous Destructor [Release version 3.2.5]
I'll consider adding the yokai back in.
Knox:
1. Type "+crouch;+jump;wait 1;-crouch;-jump" in the console.
2. Wait for me to figure out how to find out if someone's using the toggle-crouch key.
>_>
(I'll probably just set it up so that you take down the ladder anytime you hit jump while crouching)

Re: Hideous Destructor [Release version 3.2.5]
Personally I wasn't a big fan of the yokai. They were really annoying and having to wait for them to show back up was kind of a pain. They always felt out of place for this mod imo.
Re: Hideous Destructor [Release version 3.2.5]
I kinda like the Yokai for their somewhat non-immediate threat to the player (similar to a curse in sense), but they were incredibly annoying to deal with when they were too many, among other reasons. I'm okay with having them removed, but it would be a shame to abandon the role they were trying to play.
Spoiler: Gameplay spoilers regarding the ArchvileAlso, I noticed a bug that when you stabilize your aim by crouching, it will remain stabilized when you stand up again.

I keep having this crazy thought that sprinting down stairs or falling from greater than your height should result in a tumble/roll. Push the player's angle perpendicular to the angle of travel, shrink player.viewZ to a floorheight value, and roll the camera 360 degrees. Randomly throw some ammo, items, and weapons out of the player's inventory for good measure.

Re: Hideous Destructor [Release version 3.2.5]
At this point in my life, anything involving rolling the camera to that extent is definitely not happening
Not ruling it out forever, but definitely low on the priority list (even lower than persistent partial mags)
Just a thought as to changing the backpack interface:
Hold fire and use look up/down to scroll slowly, hold firemode to do so quickly, altfire to take something out?
Seems like it would be more ergonomic, so that the only keys you "really" need are fire, altfire and reload, though I don't know how everyone feels about the analogue cursor control.

Re: Hideous Destructor [Release version 3.2.5]
I like the current backpack selection scheme as it is, considering that I didn't look at the readme for the keys nor expected this feature. Pretty ergonomic for me.
This isn't a bug per se, but whenever you have to use a lift downwards, there's a good chance that instead of walking on it and moving onto the next location, you fall on it while it descends, take damage, and drop your weapon, allowing enemies on that lower platform/corridor to kill you quite easily. I have to run on it before it descends to prevent this from happening. I haven't encountered this behavior from the previous builds from late 2016. It is a bit annoying to have to fidget with this behavior.

I've known about that for a while... I just can't think of any way around it that wouldn't be a super gross ad hoc hack. (Frankly, at the speeds these platforms go, and given they start moving before you've actually stepped onto them, if you had that exact setup IRL you'd probably suffer worse.)

Nothing a quick IDDQD can't fix
Hey Vae, Big C had an idea.
Now that hallucinations of audio and video are a thing, what if yokai came back (please don't start screaming) and only serve to hit you with a little screen shake, like in that awful OUCHMUG thread, or some audio/video hallucinations. No pain, no damage, no stress on the body, just the mind.

Re: Hideous Destructor [Release version 3.2.5]
I've wanted to do that for a while, but I'll definitely need to brush up on how to draw stuff on only one person's screen at an arbitrary time... don't want to make the hallucination really be there, yknow?
