I can't wait to play this.
Most of the monsters you want in the game already have sprites... most of which can be found on Realm667. A few others (i.e. the Vagary) have some promising sprites in the Spriting Carnival (though the sprites I'm thinking of belong to someone else's project... but you may want to seek those out anyway).
For the Warper... I see no feasable way for the monster itself to warp the maps themselves into hellish territory, without the maps themselves having special texture-changing scripts that the Warper can trigger.
Pls no, i'm sick of the same sprites over and over again.
Sorry for the long time with no updates, there was no week without any progress but we don't want to build too much hype nor spoil too much.
Here is a new batch of screens with random order and a progress report.
We are not Vader or Nmn, so don't expect something of that calibre. Yet this mod is being worked on with a lot of love and dedication.
Progress Report:
Spoiler:
Maps: -All 17 Episode 1 maps are about done. I tend to look them back and either fix minor bugs or add extra stuff or change minor details. We didn't tested deathmatch yet to see if everything works well. -5 maps of Episode 2 are pretty much done. 1 map of episode 2 is done but needs a simplified version as an optional wad because it lags on some computers, 2 other maps of the same episode is almost done but need some aditional work.
-Textures of episode 1 are already there, episode 2 still needs a couple of textures. -Graphics (interpics, victory, help, etc): Episode 2 still needs some graphics.
Monsters: Former human lieutenant (Ssg guy): 100% Former human ranger: 100%
Nightmare Imp: 100% Nightmare demon: 100% (not the one from realm 667) Forgotten soul: 100% Tick: 100%
Krampus: 100% (yet perhaps we do some minor changes) Wraith: 100% (not the one from realm 667) Bruiser: 100% (not the one from realm 667) Vagary: Almost done Hunter: 100% Brain Commander: Sprites already done, needs decorate and sounds.
??? let's call it intermediate boss: 100% Warper: I think it's done. Final boss: Sprites almost done, perhaps some extra frames are added. Still needs decorate and sounds.
We already have enough monster variety but If we get the right idea we might add some extra monster as long as it adds something new to gameplay and we get the proper sprite design.
Decorations: Episode 2 still needs extra decorations.
Weapons: So far the only weapon done is the grenade launcher (sprite from kdizd with different projectile and code). It's solid posibility that we'll add some more.
Power ups: It's still up to debate if we'll add power ups and which ones. We don't want to make things too easy for the marine, or add element that don't fit with the classic gameplay. If we add them, some might be saved for deathmatch only.
Dark-Claw or hand of the summoner: An hibrid between a power up and a weapon. It already has sprites and a beta code, but it wasn't added to the game yet. Might be saved for deathmatch only Hunter sphere (time freeze sphere, not as powerful as the one from skulltag): Sprites already there and nothing else. Might be saved for deathmatch only Unmaker: Another weapon-power up hibrid: Sprites there but nothing else. Might be saved for deathmatch only Soul cube: It's a posibility, if added it wont be a clone of the one from DOOM³ and might be dm only.
Some extra notes: I'm a seasoned internet user but English is not my main language, I'm sorry if you found some Tarzan English.
I added some of the additional credits for the resources we used in the first post, if you see something yours in the mod and we didn't mentioned you please make us note it.
Maps are designed with crouch, free look, jumping, and some times swiming in mind (most liquids are 2d though). We use 3d floors and slopes, but there are no in game acs to keep it classic. The gameplay is classic style fast paced.
We still didn't add skill settings for pure lazyness. I guess I'll end fixing this.
We certainly need a victory music with the same spirit of the DOOM, DOOM 2, Evilution victory themes. If there's a composer around there interested in contributng to this proyect it'd be great.
We might upload a demo this year (episode 1, perhaps with some maps of episode 2). I map very slow (around a month to complete a map) but If Dark-Doomer gets his mapping inspiration back or if some additional mappers join the team its a solid posibility that the final product will be out in late 2018.
