The blood demon that was used in the final KDiZD? I don't know... that one really doesn't fit in with the other monsters.

Plus, I like the monster resources I used, since they are direct replacements for the D2 monsters. Since I am somewhat a beginner, it would be nice not to do too much work in DECORATE. I've done some to get the Vulgar. I've also changed some of the in-game messages, but that's it...

I wonder why the D2.5 team made their Pinky look like that, though. There's got to be some reason they ended up goin' with it...

Vader said that the more D3 Pinky-ish design was the original design for the KDiZD Blood Demon, but they eventually scrapped it and went with the current one. I think the current one fit KDiZD a lot better than a D3-looking one.

It does for KDiZD. You know what would really look good in my WAD? A HellKnight. Unfortunately, I haven't found any good sprites. I could use some from Doom 2.5, I guess.
Is it possible to do that? You know, with DECORATE?

Using more and more resources from another project that is basically doing the same thing? At this rate you may as well call it a map pack for Doom 2.5.

Not neccessarily.

For one thing, DOOM Unleashed isn't for Edge. Also, I didn't get my stuff from D2.5; I got it from D3mod.wad (even though most of those resources were made by the D2.5 team  ).

I'd like to have more monsters, so that I can have more than one boss. The D2.5 Guardian could make a good mid-game boss... :) Plus, I'd rather not use too many Doom 2 monsters (except the Revenant and the CyberDemon).

Are there any other D3-D2 sprite conversions out there (not model rips, of course)? :?:

Since I'm having "mappers' block" on MAP02, I started working on other levels. The first room of my Main Excavation level is finished, and I've prepared a screenshot for you guys!

I'm not sure if I'll go about doing this, but I have an interesting idea for this level. You know how in D3, there were some ancient tablets dug up by the UAC? Each tablet in my WAD can summon a monster!
There'll be 3 of 'em: Baron of Hell, Archvile, and the CyberDemon (since there are wall textures of those in the Doom games, lol).
Once again, I may or may not do this. Still, I'm always comin' up with neat environment ideas.

Now, um... I'll take a bit of a break from mapping in this WAD; I've started a post for a Gears of War TC that demands a TON of experience and work. School's startin' soon, though  . Argh!

In the meantime, feast yer eyes on this here screenshot (they should make a smiley that looks like a sea captain smokin' a pipe)!

The textures are ugly but I really like the shape of the room, especially the rounded pillar, keep up the good work (and possibly find some better textures, maybe even look in Doom3 iteself and downsize some)

The problem with most Doom3 textures is that they are very flat and dull on their own. The engine uses a second funky-coloured texture (I forget what they are called) to give it more depth and a better appearance.

@CaptainToenail: Why don't you like the textures?
I didn't want to downsize actual D3 textures, because I don't like the way they look in Doom (the quality is just weird).
The pack I chose did have some pretty good D3-ish images, but with a cartoony Doomish feel. That's all I was shootin' for.
Lol, the pillar is more of a cauldron-type thing. In fact, at the top is the lava pool (complete w/ particle fountains and the afore-mentioned Cacodemon)!

@Enjay: I know what you're talking about; every texture has a second layer that changes depending on where the light is coming from. I always thought that was cool... It'd be great if ZDoom could one day have a feature like that, but I wouldn't cross my fingers.

Normal maps. They give the texture depth by altering the shading so that parts appear to sink or or stick out. There would probably also be a specular map that determines shininess.

Yup, there's texturename_d for the normal texture, _s for the depth (might be the other way around), _add for full bright parts and _local for soemthing else (might be shine).

@Ghastly: Man, it'd be sweet if someone (hint, hint) developed a working code for that kind of thing... for ZDoom, you know. Combine that with higher-res textures (which ZDoom can do) and WOW.

Oh, well. Too tedious...

If you mean for me to develop that kind of code, I don't know C scripting, and wouldn't know where to begin, though I've been trying to learn it, recently.

I also doubt ZDoom could even handle rendering textures like that.

What is C-scripting, out of curiosity?
