Would opengl 2 and up improve performance on a simple map?

ZDoom LE, Pentium 133's, Windows 98, and DOS 3.1 all go here! A bygone era, of particular interest to some folks.

Would opengl 2 and up improve performance on a simple map?

Post by invictius »

Simple map, in this case meaning e1m6 of phobos anomaly reborn. And of course assuming the same video card being run on versions that do and don't have opengl 1.x as a limit.

My understanding is later opengl versions just add bells and whistles such as per pixel lighting?

Swapping out video cards, especially ones that don't like later gz versions for no apparent reason, is getting tedious and I figure someone reading is bound to have an answer due to having coded so much of gz themselves.

Definitely no.
Of course that depends on the engine using the same render path. Once it starts supporting features of the newer versions anything can happen depending on how well a feature is supported.
