Font color issue with custom font

Postby Blue Shadow » Fri Sep 24, 2021 6:37 am

Tested with: 4.8pre-4-g3ef60a40a (64-bit)
Test material: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9m95vdt5f29lb ... o.pk3?dl=1

Compare the two screenshots below in the spoiler. The top one is from 4.8pre-4-g3ef60a40a. The bottom one is from 4.6.1. In the top one, you can see that some colors are too desaturated to the point the text seems untranslated.

Spoiler:

The demo file is self contained. You don't need anything extra. You can download the font package from which I got the font from here.

Would that be another manifestation of this?

Hmm, If this is indeed not a bug, I managed to solve it from my end: I modified the font, giving its texture a darker shade (127, 127, 127) which produced almost identical colors to 4.6.1 (you can't even spot the difference), and the good thing is, there doesn't appear to be a noticeable difference between the original and modified fonts when used with 4.6.1.

Oh cool, I was having this same problem. I'll have to see if I can fix it the same way.

It shouldn't be this extreme. Since there is no source material for the font, does it only contain pure black and white colors?

The link I put at the end of the opening post has everything. But yes, the main part of the font is white (#ffffff), and the shadow is black (#000000).

Here's something interesting: I just tested this with both a release and debug build, and the release build's colors are noticably more desaturated.
This looks like an uninitialized variable somewhere.

Let's hope it is something easy to find.
