(Linux 64-bit build) Executable missing

Postby AvzinElkein » Mon May 24, 2021 7:36 pm

I recently switched to Linux Mint and downloaded what was supposed to be the Linux version of GZDoom 4.6.0, but alas, the executable wasn't there.

Looks like it's there to me. That "gzdoom" file is the exectuable. That's how Linux works.

If it's not executing, then it may be an error in how it was packaged - simply type sudo chmod +x /opt/gzdoom/gzdoom to fix.

Open a terminal and type file /opt/gzdoom/gzdoom and please paste the results.

It gave me the following:
Code: Select allExpand view
/opt/gzdoom/gzdoom: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (GNU/Linux), dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, BuildID[sha1]=749b75b96116f1fc609af293cedaa03d8af2aaae, stripped

That's odd. What happens if you execute it directly using the console? (I meant Terminal, not console)

/opt/gzdoom/gzdoom <enter>

Also, I was trying to run GZDoom by doubleclicking the file itself.

What happens when you run it from the console instead of the GUI?

It would be helpful if you posted your solution, so other people can see it in case someone else has the same problem ;)
