Crash, bang, boom

Postby HotWax » Sun Sep 28, 2003 4:19 pm

This is probably my fault, but for the sake of... ummm... stuff, here's the crash message.

The two WADfiles are Viper's ARENA5.WAD and my own homebrew heretic+hexen resources WAD, which contains pieces of Enjay's DHH.wad file to eliminate compatibility issues. There are a few graphics errors in it caused by XWE and it's probably loaded with unnecessary resources because I'm not too familiar with Heretic or Hexen, but I managed to get everything working (more or less) and play a couple dozen arena battles with no problem. I'm not sure why it crashed, I was simply jogging around blasting assorted baddies with assorted weapons.

I can send you the master.wad file on request, but it's 76.8MB compressed . . . (not to mention as it contains 95% of the graphic, music, and sound resources from Heretic and Hexen it'd probably be considered piracy :D)

Hmm... Well, at this moment, arena5.wad is quite unstable, but randy said (IIRC) that everything will work perfectly fine when 2.0.48/2.1 comes out. An easy way to avoid the crash is to bind a key to "kill" (something out of the way. I use "j"), and after you win a battle, kill yourself and start over. Easy, huh? :P

Anyway, to fic the problem about your master wad being 76 megabytes compressed, run it in XWE and select "Clean Wad". Works like a charm.

Also, I've created a wad similar to your "master.wad", and all that's missing is the registered Heretic stuff, as I only have shareware. :( Well, is there any possible way you can send me a copy of the regged Heretic stuff (Via PM or Email, maybe?), because I'm dying to see how they work. Heh, stupid question, huh?

Fixed for 2.0.48/2.1.0. A wraith (from Hexen) did not have a target but tried to shoot at it anyway.
