No sound in zdoom 2.5 version of doom 2

Post by Guest »

Well I shouldn't say no sound. I do get music. I downloaded zdoom 2.5 without a hitch, but when I start a game, I get no sound effects whatsoever. Just music. I've messed around with the sound options, but nothing seems to work. For someone who is stupid about these sort of things, could anyone give me some advice?

There is other sound devices likes Vista wasapi and Timidity++, if he/she uses those, FMOD isn't needed.
(I am unsure about this, though)

If FMOD Ex is not loaded, you won't have sound. You may get MIDI music depending on which [wiki]MIDI device[/wiki] you choose; but not sounds. If you look in the console log, up to the top, you'll see something like this:

Code: Select all

I_InitSound: Initializing FMOD
Failed to load fmodex.dll
Sound init failed. Using nosound.
If this is what is happening to the OP, it's normal. Make sure you have an fmodex.dll in the same directory as ZDoom. ZDoom is normally distributed with it.

I wonder if the OP had Windows 95 or 98 on which FmodEx doesn't work.

Well, anyway, without any chance of feedback there's not much that can be done...

(works fine for me)

I had this problem with gzdoom. I followed the advice here and did the zdoom download only to copy the fmodex.dll into my gzdoom folder. Now I can hear the imps snort! Yeah!

Can you give us more information about which version of GZDoom you're running, what files are included with it, your operating system and sound hardware, etc.?
