That's because Windows' WAV API doesn't support realtime mixing and positional audio. (I should know - I tried.)

Ever heard of DirectSound? Who is using the old and obsolete Wave API anyway? It was crap when it was designed and that hasn't changed.

A few reasons:
  1. When I made the switch from MIDAS to FMOD, FMOD didn't have MIDI support.
  2. Now that FMOD does have MIDI support, all it does with a MIDI file is pass it off to DirectMusic, so it won't work on what few machines are still using DirectX 3.
  3. Since most MIDIs Doom plays are not in MIDI format, they would need to be converted to MIDI files first. Why bother, when using the Windows MIDI API to send MIDI messages directly is practically the same amount of work?

Now I can't even reproduce it. I swear it was pretty consistently happening.

Oh well. I suppose that's a good thing.

Closed bugs seems good enough. It's only one persons problem, and he can't get it to happen anymore. If any more details are uncovered, I can move this back to the open bugs forum.

Every once in a while, playing doom2.wad using Zdoom 2.X, whenever I land from a high fall the OOF sound echoes, as if it's playing multiple times. Other than that, sounds great.
