Computer map pickup sound

Postby cccp_leha » Thu Dec 18, 2003 4:22 pm

When a computer map is picked up, the sound played is DSITEMUP, not DSGETPOW as it was before.

This is because DSGETPOW is used for powerups, and the computer map is technically an item, not a powerup.

Technically - yes, I agree with you there, but vanilla Doom had it like that. Then again, a radiation suit isn't quite a powerup itself. You can, of course, argue...

I think it should play the same sound as it did in vanilla doom. For the sake of preserving the core doom2 artwork (gameplay, sound, music, the presice web spun by the 3, etc.) that made us fall in love with it.

When I first played Doom there was no DSGETPOW at all. Still, this should be corrected.

My "Operational Support" mod has sounds defined for all the power classes in SNDINFO, with backpacks being the sole exception. As such, I replaced the DSITEMUP sound with the sound of the Marine pulling a backpack on. This just sounds weird with the map.

Well, that map looks to be larger in size than the backpack anyways. :)
