I'd rather like to see Redneck Rampage. That game had such fantastic levels...

The mysterious Russian gent that did the Java-based ports of Blood and, uh, Witchaven, has been focusing on this recently. Sure, it'll be Java, but it'll likely be an improvement over DOSbox.

Anyway, I'm distracting from Lex's hard work.

Shadow Warrior Total Conversion - first episode release! (split)

Postby PixelWAD » Fri Aug 03, 2018 7:26 am

@Rayman check out my mod!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTvbY40 ... e=youtu.be
It's especially made for VR. This is the true next generation of gaming. I can't go back to playing on the screen.

Personally I think it's a little bit 'waste of time' to redo more than 1 or 2 maps, as they are easily playable on PC anyway. Community of Shadow Warrrior/Redneck Rampage is almost non existent. It's much easier to reuse all available assets as maps by making a texture mod combined with total conversion. I think it's a blast! Although not perfect, it does give me a feeling of playing Duke Nukem, not Doom at all. And I'd much rather play hundred of hours playing new custom levels than beating the original ones over and over again ;)

I gave it a try and I love it! I had to rework the weapon models for VR, but it's a blast!

And sadly, the author totally disappeared long time ago...

Not only its EDuke32 code is outdated and buggy, and no more developmemt.
(In its github, the last commit was 2015.)

Just think that shit never existed.
Well, it still run-able but do expect it may acting weird. :3:

I haven't played it a lot, but everything just works for me. Still i dont think anyone will ever work on this again, so it's better to focus on making good Doom mod ;}

Graf Zahl wrote:With all those Build games it is really frustrating sometimes. I'd really like to play them again but the mouse control of EDuke32 and related ports sucks so badly that I normally quit after a few minutes.

We recently fixed the "stairstep" issue by increasing the precision of the angle variables. We still need to engineer a solution for mouse updates only taking place on the 30 Hz game timer.

Graf Zahl wrote:I wish we could get it organized to do complete GZDoom ports for all of them, but that's probably some wishful thinking... :(

blackfish wrote:I think the effort would be worth it if shell "games" were created using Build engine game assets (Duke, Blood, SW, etc for GZDoom) so that folks can make maps with said content easily as a resource. That Chasm mod is pretty close to being one, for example. What I've seen so far of this mod works so far as well.

Build games running on GZDoom, mod or "port", would not be themselves. Full stop.

You sound like a Texas Ranger. How am I violating anything... and this - along with many other TCs - don't?

Ridiculous. You aren't even asking me, you are ordering me to remove something.
Funny. This website is full of ripped textures, sounds, models, sprites and code - and you have a problem with my mod, cause you're from eduke team?

He's from the HRP team and has every right to tell you to stop using their stuff, just as any other publisher, developer etc. can tell people here (and in some cases have told people here) to stop using their stuff. You might not like that, but that's not really his problem.

You have no standing here on this. You are hereby advised to cease this argument immediately - we respect the wishes of content creators, and if you cannot do likewise then you have no place in our community.

Classic false equivalency. If the authors of that other content want us to stop using it, they have every right to send similar demands/orders.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand how Is his mod breaking HRP art license while Duke Nukem 3D mod not?

Is it because he is using voxels instead of sprites?
Is it because he is using sounds straight from Duke Nukem 3D?
Is it because he is using textures from Duke Nukem 3D?
