The Skulltag-era netcode is Not Good and weaves its way through areas of the engine that it really shouldn't. This makes it hard to add new GZDoom features to Zandronum (hence why it's well behind feature-wise) or to merge into the core GZDoom. There are plans for a new C/S netcode that hopefully won't be Crime On A Stick, but as far as I know, they're just plans at this point since everybody's busy with their own thing.

You probably aren't reading this.

Indeed. IIRC one of the Zandronum devs was going to work on it, but from what I know no progress was made.

It won't effect old versions. From the sounds of things, it won't effect versions after the next one, either. So if you're really not a fan, just skip a version.

Thank you, that's all I needed to know!

I still think it still should be pretty clear what people will be getting their selves into. Like, not everybody browses these forums, so anyone who downloads GZDoom and boots it up for the first time should still be informed if they are sending any information. I presume this will inform people, right?

Yes, that's the whole point of the previous discussion: There will be an op-in box on startup.

I really don't see why everyone's so picky about GZDoom sending hardware info though. If you take them on their word that it'll only be in this version and will nicely ask so you can say no, why won't you take them on their word that it's just those things? :?

Rachel and Graf: It'll only collect this info so we can make informed decisions.
Everyone: I don't believe you. Let me opt out.
Rachel and Graf: It'll only be this one version and will ask nicely every time.
Everyone: Cool, thanks!

I would be pretty cautious of anything sending any information from my computer or performing any kind of routine in the background, even with the assurance that nothing will happen with it. That being said, if its only in the next version and only the next version, then that is less worrisome.

How do you people ever go outside? What if your own shadow attempts to kills you? I'm all for a little bit of paranoia, but Jesus Christ this is ridiclous. ಠ_ಠ

But why is it less worrisome? I reiterate:

Why do you believe one and not the other?

I see the 4chan hyperbole machine is in full gear.

Remember kids: Just because you read it on 4chan does not mean it's true.
