Also, when the hell is Caleb morphing into a beast? I have One Unit Whole Blood and I've played it to death and beyond for years but never encountered this.

He doesn't, it's an unused sprite - IIRC the original plan for the game was that you could pick a member of the chosen to play as, and you could transform into beasts (Caleb's form would probably be the Beast) The other chosen would turn into the Giant spider, Stone Gargoyle, and Cerberus.
