Ah, missed that when I was touching up the sprite after I skewed it in Paint. I'll redo that with Jimmy's updated pickup sprite.

Xaser wrote:Unfortunately, this sprite brings to light a big perspective problem. Guns held in that perspective aren't magically skewed upwards -- that's not the same as rotation. Ideally, those white vertical stripes should be going up and to the left -- you may want to move parts of it to the side a bit so it looks a bit more natural.
This is a good opportunity to bring up something about sprite editing:

What option is that in GIMP, exactly? That'll make things MUCH easier!

Just the rotate tool. There's an icon for it, you can also access it by the menu layer->transform->arbitrary rotation.

How do I keep the rotate tool from blurring it beyond-belief, after I click rotate?

Edit: Ehh, found it. Surprisingly, this is something I think Paint does a little better, to be honest.

Edit2:

How's this? I find GIMP very difficult to use, and the rotate tool makes it look noisey, but it keeps the general shape very nicely.

Edit3: Aw, hell. GIMP overwrote the original copy of the scaled-down-to-fit-on-the-marine Redeemer I had. Have to start over. >.<

Make sure it's in indexed mode rather than RGB. You can find the Doom palette for the GIMP on the wiki.

Or just set interpolation to none from the main tool window

Yeah, when I don't draw the sprites manually on the marine, I've tended to use MSPaint skewing, which looks decent for smaller weapons. But even now I'm thinking I might use actual rotation, with like Paint.NET or something, which I have been using for stuff recently now. I haven't done a weapon-marine sprite for a while actually.

Hmm, I might need some help with the rotations for firing frame for the weapon itself, actually. Never did one where the projectile was part of the weapon itself.

I couldn't get someone to put this in Doom's style, could I?

It's Unreal Championship 2's Ripjack.

Edit: Went ahead and put in the 1, 2 and 4 rotations, as well. Those would make a marine skin SO much easier.

Photoshop costs like, a hundred million dollars, and the other less legal methods aren't preferred by most. Paint.NET is fine enough for me.
