The new version of GZDoom doesn't work for me

Contrary to popular belief, we are not all-knowing-all-seeing magical beings!
If you want help you're going to have to provide lots of info. Like what is your hardware, what is your operating system, what version of GZDoom/LZDoom/whatever you're using, what mods you're loading, how you're loading it, what you've already tried for fixing the problem, and anything else that is even remotely relevant to the problem.
We can't magically figure out what it is if you're going to be vague, and if we feel like you're just wasting our time with guessing games we will act like that's what you're really doing and won't help you.

The new version of GZDoom doesn't work for me
Today I downloaded the newest version of GZDoom (3.2.3) and when I start the game, it's barely functioning. Even the menu screen is constantly freezing (there's a large delay between me pressing the button and the game responding), but when I start the game, it runs at about 1 frame per second and is totally unplayable. I tried tweaking various graphical options, but nothing solves the problem.
However, an older version of GZDoom that I have on my computer (2.2.0), works without any flaws. What's the problem? How to make the newer version work on my computer?

What are your system specs, and what version are your video drivers? As much detail as you can manage, please.

Processor is Intel Celeron N2840.wildweasel wrote:What are your system specs, and what version are your video drivers? As much detail as you can manage, please.
Graphics card is Intel HD Graphics.
2GB DDR3 L memory.
Basically, it's a terrible old laptop, but it ran GZDoom 2.2.0 perfectly fine!!
Uh, about drivers.. Honestly, I think the graphics card is so outdated that no more drivers are made for it.

That may be the problem then. There have been a few changes in system requirements since 2.2.0.
What OpenGL version does your system report in the console?

It says "GL_VERSION: 4.0.0 - BUILD 10.18.10.4276".

If there is no new drivers then it’s the only one option left: to use -glversion 2 command line option.
Re: The new version of GZDoom doesn't work for me
Try "gl_renderbuffers false" first, though, and see if that fixes the issue.

Re: The new version of GZDoom doesn't work for me
Could also try -glversion 3.3 in case the GL4.0 code path is enabling something that causes the driver choke, while a simpler (but still somewhat modern-ish) feature-set may avoid the problem._mental_ wrote:If there is no new drivers then it’s the only one option left: to use -glversion 2 command line option.

I tried every solution posted above and, unfortunately, neither of them worked.
Oh well.. I guess I can play QZDoom instead..

Have you tried GZDoom 3.1?
Two more things you can try: disable EFX in the OpenAL options. Then try changing your midi device from fluidsynth to something else such as the microsoft synth.
