ZPortal v2 - Current TT Best time: 0:36:24 - Sticky

Post by Cutmanmike »

ZPortal. A mod based from Valve's very first Portal trailer back in 2005(06?). If you haven't heard of portal yet I suggest you check it out, otherwise feel free to continue.

Check this site for a brief intro on this wad: http://cutstuff.net/blog/?page_id=8

From the text file:

As promised years ago, here is an expansion to the Portal Gun for ZDoom that I released
a while back. The wad contains a hub map with four levels (Complex, Canyon, Sky Palace
and Castle), two new portal guns and all new obstacles, puzzles and challenges for you
to accomplish! It also has a vauge storyline which isn't worth worrying too much about.

How to play:
Use the portal gun to create two "portals". Step into a portal to come out of the other.
Use fire and alternate fire to fire the two different portals.
Make sure you have Fire, Alternative Fire and Inventory keys set up on your keyboard.
Mouselook and jumping are also mandatory.
Find new inventory items and portal guns to help you solve even tougher puzzles.

Warning:
This wad is ONLY compatible with GZDoom as it uses 3D floors, models and dynamic lights.

WARNING: You WILL need this version of GZDoom. PERIOD!

And finally, here is version 1 of the ZPortal adventure!

VERSION 2

Yeah, kinda forgot it existed. Deleted it now so hang on to it and maybe you can sell it on ebay in a few hundred years!

Uhh... as Randy once said "This is more like a teleport gun than a portal gun". But thanks for the compliment ;)

Edit: Btw I'll be uploading this to idgames after I receive some feedback and make changes, so if you want a grab a review spot on doomworld lemmie know.

Yeah I could probably review this for ya, unless you have someone specific in mind. I'm a big fan of the original Portal and I'm liking what I see so far ofthis, so.

The only suggestion I have is making the portal radius smaller, as I keep on accidentally tripping them when I don't mean to.'Tis getting a bit irritating, thus reducing my fun factor. :( I think making it smaller would be fine as in the original you had to quite precisely be trying to go through one to "activate" it.

Also maybe inserting portal "death lines" in between sections to reduce the "fire portal at wall immediately trip it and get sent back flying" factor. Though maybe you already have and I just didn't notice.

"Death lines"? Humm... if you mean you keep tripping on your own portals you should use your inventory item, which kills open portals.

Yeah like, you know there'd be those little barriers n the original which if you crossed, all your portals would close. Could look neat if nothing else. :P

I am aware of the inventory item, which is a great idea btw, but you know, I'm lazy/forgetful. :P

EDIT: Just played through the Desert level and all I have to say is: O. M. G. Dude, that was SO awesome. I have literally have not had that much fun in #-D since Turok on the old N64. (Do I even need to mention I just made that statement in reference to a Doom level?) You have my eternal respect.
