Well, to be honest, I don't think that's possible. The vanilla monsters sprites are already fairly low-res and they already look cartoonish with their bulky limbs and heads. To reduce the resolution even further means that to conserve detail, these areas need to be made even mare exaggerrated. Voxel mods that use the vanilla resolution have been attempted in teh past several times but it's just too much work to recreate all frames for all monsters at this resolution with voxels,

I would say, an hour for simple models like the former humans to two or three hours for the Archvile or Cyberdemon.

Very good! I might put out a new version of Voxel Chibi , I have some minor stuff that could be added... Like voxel explosions for barrels and projectiles, and of course there are all those decorative sprites not yet converted to voxels... The shotgun animation needs some recoil effect.

just found this a few days ago and must say i absolutely looooooooooove this! <3
especially in combination with voxel-chibi and pcspeaker sounds and NESdoom its just a blast.

its both nostal-gasmic with the low-res look & the delightfully oldschool pc-speaker sounds,
as well as adorably hilarious and cute with the voxel chibi enemies and oversized items

.

.

felt like making my own contribution to help make doom even more low-res.

one thing i personally absolutely love is brightmaps, which allow pixels on textures to glow in the dark.
since brightmaps are super-easy to make, i decided to make those first.

the pack covers all textures that textures that are currently in low-res doom
download brightmaps for low-res doom

just load it after low-res doom and bam, now all lights, computer screens and switches have glowy parts

.

.

i also started on making low-res graphics for the menus, since i didnt like how the menus were still normal-looking

Image
Image

so far ive only finished the main menu and the episode-selection.
I used the ep1 graphic from Ezepov as inspiration for the look of the text
and the menu skulls were taken from one of Ezepov's wall-textures.

ill post a download link once ive at least covered all the menu-graphics

and low-res status-screen is in too :)

Image

really all thats left to do now is all map-titles of both doom1 & doom2,
so think its complete enough for now that i can release an early version

download lowres menus v0.45

.

only thing that im a bit stumped on is replacing the big options logo when inside the options submenu....
i replaced both M_OPTION and M_OPTTTL, yet somehow this menu continues showing the original graphic?

those warnings come up cuz there's no brightmaps for those textures yet cuz you didnt make those particular textures yet
i copied the defs and bm files from another brightmaps pack. once there's brightmaps for those textures the warnings will go away.

.

EDIT: here's a version of the brightmaps pk3 with blank black textures as placeholders for the textures not done yet
download low-res doom brightmaps v1a

includes all map-titles from doom1 and doom2,
and both bigfont and smallfont are also fully replaced
[imgur]https://i.imgur.com/RJvDs70[/imgur]

also made a small edit to the end-screen text

there's only a few menu-graphics left that arent re-drawn in the same NES-style
