@Reaper 666: ok, you're the first one in the whole AEoD history that asked about the music wad :P (at least someone liked it besides me).
Im guessing you are talking about the latest (about a couple months old) version of said wad, because there was anothe older, but it's lost now. Still, since you mentioned "the dark eternal night", yeah, you must be talking of this one.

Oh, and david, now I know why you hate so much the phoenix. Is the only (not extremely rare) monster that can break your cheating rampage. Now it makes sense. Dont expect it to change though.

I gotta admit, this one sounded quite decent in midi.

One of my favorite Dream Theater tunes =)

Well, you're half right. It's more of the fact that nothing on the planet should do 2048 damage period! And that's how much damage the Phoenix does when it explodes in your face. Hey, I didn't make God Mode useless above 1000 damage, you know. :)
Is there a way to give yourself 3000 health? I don't think so.

give health 3000. You can give yourself up to 32767 health in one go. Useful for giving yourself 1 million + health for surviving telefrags/MDKs.

Really the phoenix isn't even all that bad either. As long as you can kill it (even if it revives) just keep knocking it down and quickly leave that area. Prolly the worst thing that can happen is if it infights with another monster than kills itself, you, and everything else in the room. Otherwise just try to leave its area. Personally i think the strife soldier that replaces the hellknight is more annoying to some degree.

You could also increase your armor. Give bluearmor 1000000000000000000, though I forgot the max amount. Something like 65xxx.

Yeah, I know how much damage it does: it was me who made it that way. And "nothing on the planet should do 2048 damage period!" sounds like a very very bad argument; even when Im not very open to changing that specific monster, that kind of "rationalization" is pretty much useless for me to rethink about balance ;)

Still I always wondered why god mode doesnt work like the invulnerability does. With the former, at least with extreme attacks you wont die.

Unknown_Assassin wrote:You could also increase your armor. Give bluearmor 1000000000000000000, though I forgot the max amount. Something like 65xxx.
Or talking especifically of aeod, "give maxarmor XX" where each unit means one maxarmor pickup, not one maxarmor point.

@NovaDragon: Completely true, that's why I still scratch my head when I see DavidB1000 complaining so much about that monster. The monster itself is pretty rare, the attack has a 50% to occur, the chances for it to succeed are only like another half , and finally, it isnt that healthy. The chances to find a phoenix per Pain elemental spawner are slightly over 1%, now do all the other math :P

Anyway, about the strife soldier, if you are talking about the shielded one, yeah, that one is annoying. Tip: Aim always at his feet ;)

@Zitro: Thanks for the report, I think the problem lies in the spawned rock, is all about ownerships. I'll see if I can fix it later.

i suggest to put the plasma gun as a chaingun spawner. It is fun, only moderate in firepower, and could be the only cell-eating weapon you could have early in the game (you would rarely run out of it with a railgun).

I tend to find it as rare as some powerful weapons.

OKay, I'll go test out how much my health can go. I thought Zdoom capped it at 1000 or something. Well, here's hoping giving myself 20,000 armor and health is enough.
YEAH! I just tested it. 30000 health and 100 maxarmor and said attack mostly tingled. :)
Also, like I said, arguments aside, it's still the most hideously unbalanced monster in the game, bar none, I don't see how come no one here can see that. A monster that can kill you in one hit with full health and absorption armor should not exist.

I don't know about it pulling off the attack only 50% of the time either. The only thing the Phoenix does is either throw tiny fire at you, or runs towards you in a suicide bomber attack. :)

And it always succeds in that attack. So I don't know what you're talking about when you say it only succedes half the time.
attack has a 50% to occur, the chances for it to succeed are only like another half ,

Call me crazy, but why anything exists that can kill you faster than an MDK just about, and no one complains about the balance issue, I just don't understand. How hard is it to see that nothing should do over 1000 damage period in a single shot. DBT himself doesn't do that much, and Heaven/Hell is the most powerful weapon in this mod. Hell, that weapon in your hands maybe does 1000-1200 damage a shot.

Besides, nothing short of a Tomberry from Final Fantasy, or Omega Weapon should logically do so much damage. Whenever BFG shots do less damage to you then an exploding bird, we have a balance issue. Period.

Can't you interrupt the kamikaze attack by shooting it before it reaches you? Unless you're in extremely close quarters, that shouldn't be a problem.

Then again, I could be wrong... I'll have to test.

@DavidB1000: There are plenty of games where the player can get annihilated in a single shot, but there are ways of defeating said enemies. I myself have never encountered this Phoneix that you speak of, because I rarely play AEoD, but there must be some strategies as to defeat it harmlessly. Ethril has mentioned one possible strategy, so maybe you should start with that.

Besides, one cannot start talking about balancing issues when you're using cheat codes (which utterly destroy balance full stop). I'm not going to get involved in the ethics of cheat codes or such, but surely it is clear to everyone that balancing issues + cheat codes do not work well together. Furthermore, you are the only one who has voiced a concern about the Phoenix. While I'm not saying that your opinion isn't worthless, you make it sound as if this is some sort of emergency that must be solved as soon as possible without fail. In response to this, all I can say is that without other people who share the same concern as you (and I mean, a lot of people), the same argument against Chii applies here as well.

That is, you have stated your opinion, and DBT has recognized this, but it is his creation nonetheless (not solely of course), and as such he makes the decision as to whether to change the Phoenix or not, and unless I have misread his posts, he is stated he will not change it.

Alirght, fair enough. Perhaps you are right about other games, but I don't play Contra. :)
The main use of cheat codes for me is so I can have a nice and relaxing fun time blowing the crap out of Demons from hell without worrying about dying. I don't see why that necessarily is a horrible, horrible thing. :)
i'm not playing Contra, nor am I playing Ghoul's Forest.
I play to have fun. The Phoenix and it's heart attack generator, :) , doesn't help me have fun. Also, interupting it's kamikaze attack isn't easy at all.
Bottom line, for me, that monster ruins the fun of AEOD for me. This is a pretty damn awesome mod, but to me, the fun value is lost if I run into something like the Phoenix.

I don't see what the major hatred of cheaters come from. I play to have fun, why some people hate me for having fun, I don't know. :)
