CR8 Quake Texture pack for Doom

Post by Mechadon »

If you happened to have played this map that I released yesterday, then you will have already seen a few of these textures. Anyways, I've been working pretty much all day long compiling these textures into a working pack for Doom. Included are 276 new textures and 112 new flats. Be sure to read the readme for all the credits and whatnot. Also, if you happen to spot any errors or anything else noteworthy, please let me know so I can resolve the problem. I did do a little bit of testing with the switches in Boom to make sure they worked properly, but that's it. You can check the test map to see how a sample of how the textures look in-game.

That looks pretty slick there kekedose :O. I thought they looked pretty good in Doom too, that was the main reason I compiled this.

@DOOMERo-21: Sorry, these aren't Q3 textures :/

New textures are always welcome--but I'm getting an overwhelming "Too Much Brown" feel from the preview shots. Quake's massive amount of boring brown and tan textures was one of the reasons I preferred Q2's environments, but to each their own, right?

Yes, there is a lot of brown and grunge :lol:. There are some concrete and brick textures to break things up a bit, and I even contemplated grayscaling some of the panel textures to mix up all the browns a bit, but I never did. I, however, really like the Quake brown look in Doom as opposed to seeing just normal Doom textures all the time. So yea, to each their own I suppose :P. Thanks for the comment!

*YOINK.*

This type of texture pack would be great for a heavy industrial factory and other such structures. I may not use them exclusively (I am making a few "cheap" textures in a few other places), but they will certainly be useful nonetheless. Those look great.

This would actually be a pretty good idea! Maybe you could do some greens, too, like in NiGHTMARE's recolored doom texture pack.

Well then, I might possibly do that tonight or sometime later in the week and either re-release this or release an add-on to it. It probably wouldn't take me too long unless I want pack to grayscale and color some of the light textures (which would require more work because of all the selecting). I think a few more concrete and brick variants would be nice as well. Anyways, I'll see what I can do ;)

*edit*

While I'm pondering this, if anyone would like to make edits of textures from this pack and have them added, let me know...or actually, just do it and post up the graphics. If I like 'em, I'll add them. The only reason I'm doing this is because I'll more than likely be making more edits for this (as per the upper portion of this post).
