wimpdoom - Shoot with your eyes closed

This is an eye detector and a ZDoom mod that restricts your shooting depending on the openness of your eyes in a webcam image.

I had an idea of a mod where you would play as someone who's really afraid of shooting, so you could only shoot with your both eyes closed. This implementation kinda works, but i still I consider it a bit of a failed experiment since the eye detector isn't very good.

Instructions
  • Download wimpdoom_r1.zip (3.9 MB)
  • Bind the eye signaling keys (the eye detector presses these down when an eye is closed) in ZDoom. (bind b +user1 and bind n +user2)
  • Run eyedetect.exe that opens up a window where you can see your face and some visual markers showing where it thinks you eyes are. Now keys are getting pressed if you blink your eyes.
  • Start ZDoom with the bundled wimp.pk3 as a PWAD.
Requirements
  • A webcam
  • Proper lighting so the program can see your face
  • A modern Windows operating system

Yeah sure the PK3 might even work as is, or at least with minimal porting effort. The eyedetector just sends key up & down events so it's engine agnostic.

This gives me an idea for a mod where a monster gets enraged by the player actually looking at it. If it looks at the screen you have to close both eyes or it attacks - maybe an extension could get microphone input and make monster sensitive to sound.
Would be cool but rather gimmicky

Haha, you should make the hud face close it's eyes when you do.
