I'll add a cvar to disable the buffer next version. It's there to prevent people from accidentally picking cards when loading a save, as I've watched too many streamers struggle with that for some reason.

The Assassin will spawn a monster near you to come after you at a random point in time, and has a few buffs. Next version you'll be able to find out what this and every other card does in detail ;)

I'm not using any mods and it just happens sometimes.


I've tried in vanilla with a few maps and couldn't get it to happen. Probably goes without saying but did you use any cheats? Or any save games?

Try seed 3503 in Hardcore Mode with the Regular Deck on Doom 2 Map01 to see what I mean.

Oh I see! I misread the bug, I thought the effect was triggering randomly. Either way, yeah that's a bug :) Will fix.

In multiplayer
host gets to pick what kind of of deck we get like standard hardcore and so on, but after that player 2 get to pick the card, but the friend i am playing with dosnt want to pick the cards so can you make it so we can chose who gets to pick the cards in multiplayer or just make it so only host can pick the cards?

Ok so we did a little bit more testing, cards picking to alternate between player 1 and 2,
so i got a few more friends and we did a 4-Player Coop,
Turns out everyone gets a chance to pick a card one by one [After the end of the map when next map loads] then it loop back to Player 1 and so on.

please add an option to turn this off if possible, and make it so only the host gets to pick the card.
Would help streamline the gameplay and have less of "Oi I Sayed pick the other card the OTHER other card not that one but the OTHER one"

Here's a new version that includes the new Card Compendium!



You can find the card compendium in the options menu, and it can show each card's mechanics in detail. However, you must unlock each card individually before you can view them! Simply beat a stage after choosing a card to unlock it in the compendium (you will be notified when this happens). This feature even supports custom cards which will be added to the compendium dynamically. Also your collection is written to your ini file, meaning you can continue unlocking cards in your collection even if you complete or abandon a run :)

  • Added the Card Compendium! Accessed from the options menu, it allows you to view every card in more detail after unlocking them by playing the game.
  • Added names to every card, so they can easily be identified in the future.
  • Added hidden cvar ccards_noselectionbuffer. Toggle to true to disable the 2 second buffer before choosing a card.
  • Added the option to show/hide card names in the card selector.
  • Added the option to show/hide card descriptions in the card selector.
  • Added the option for the server host to always choose the game mode and cards.
  • Fixed the main deck not showing correctly in the deck selector if altered by the CCARDS lump.
  • Fixed a bug where loading a save on card selection could offer different cards.
  • Fixed Partial Invisibility card still not quite working.
  • Fixed items that were also monsters still being effected by certain cards.
  • Fixed a bug with the mirror curse when loading a save game.
  • Fixed Keys of Power card being offered on maps that don't have any keys.
  • Fixed Sludge Rain slow effect being inconsistent.
  • Cards that restore health will no longer restore health over monsters that have an increased health pool via other mods (fixes Legendoom legendaries).
  • "Every monster receives a random card buff" now effects 1 in 3 monsters, instead of every single monster.
  • Angry chickens now leave players alone after 30 seconds.
  • Replaced Projectiles tiers adjusted (no more "Imp throws Cyberdemon projectiles" marked as tier 1).

Deck Selection and Card Compendium, especially Card Compendium is certainly a brand new, amazing addition to the mod!!

And i know this is kinda obvious, but it gives me "VM execution aborted: tried to read from address zero" error when i click on the Card Compendium while not playing the game. Expected warning message or something like that.

Oops. Shows how often I boot the game up to the titlescreen, I can't even remember how to do it in ZDL

Playing 1.6 I made it to the 7th level, the illusions card showed up again so I picked it to see if it would crash again. Sure enough, not even a minute later a crash. Here's the mods I'm using.

Target Spy
Pandemonia
Russian Overkill
Nashgore Vengeance
Tilt++
10.5x

Current active cards:

Chaos Warrior and it's species turn to stone
Plasma Pistol Zombie no longer flinch
Shotgun Admiral deals extra damage if wounded
Pistol Zombie deals extra damage if wounded
Pistol Zombie are always focused on player
Chaos Warrior and it's species hunt the player in silence

I'm using gzdoom 4.3.3 with Vulkan renderer. Playing doom 1 with DDAMN10.wad

Played for a while with those mods loaded and still can't get it to crash. I've made some insanity checks to the code to hopefully stop some crashing but it's all a shot in the dark without an error message.

It's gzdoom 4.3.3. I removed every mod and the crash persisted so I tried 4.5 and it works fine.

i don't wanna sound like I'm complaining all the time, but new bug i found

Multiplayer countdown timer is set to 0
Game mode selected > card types selected > but cards still get auto picked in 50 seconds +/- 20
for now we have just set Multiplayer delay to 120 for a 2 minute countdown, but it would be great if we didn't have to rush things.

Ok so we did more testing and turns out, its more random than I though,
some time it also auto selects the game mode type [standard, hardcore so on] and it that happens it just selects regular card deck with it, and if you wait some more it then selects the card as well.

[Oh and that also happens if you let the countdown end, it selects whatever game type was highlighted and auto selects the regular card deck, so thats that you just don't get to pic the card deck type I guess. Would be nice it was in two steps like first cooldown ends than it starts a new cooldown for the card deck too]

So i though I will unbind the use key for me its "E" [Unbinded from options and set to attack in mod options]

but no, still happens sometimes when the Multiplayer countdown timer is set to 0,
hasn't happened so far when using the 120 second delay.
but seeing that timer tick down makes me more nervous than i like to admit .

Or i might just be plain stupid and 0 just sets it to random like the Random Seed stuff, but i think setting Multiplayer countdown timer 0 should stop the countdown all together.

Just in case if its important
Always start on preferred game mode is off
Disable deck selector is set to no

Oh and one thing more i found out it doesn't happen in single player at all.

Is it just me or projectiles fired by the player while "Accelerated Boost" is active don't travel faster like they should? I'm not using any mods by the way. Also, there should be a space after "All" in monstergeneration.zscript on line 10.
