[ECWolf] WOLFROTT gameplay mod

Post by AstroCreep »

This is a short gameplay mod for use with ECWolf and Wolf3D 1.4. It simply replaces the actors with their ROTT counterparts, however this takes inspiration from the original specs, to better fit with Wolf3D.

CREDITS

Knife - from lost episodes
Pistol, dual pistol and MP40 - from lost episodes and modified by AstroCreep
Chaingun, bazooka and flamethrower from ROTT original specs
enemies by Majik Monkee, inspired by ROTT original specs with exception of:
Low guard by thandor
Monks modified from ROTT specs by AstroCreep
El Oscuro, patrol robot and ballistikraft by AstroCreep (sources ROTT original specs and Blake Stone)
IMF music by AstroCreep, converted from original ROTT midis (level music is included but not defined in mapinfo)
All sounds and other stuff ripped directly from Rise of the Triad

DOWNLOAD
updated 4/8/19 - fixed patrol robot death frames, changed statics.pk3 to replace Wolf actors, removed XLAT, imf defined for first 3 episodes

Interesting stuff, I could see this being expanded to a full-fledged "what if" kind of TC.

On a critical note, I would probably have the knife removed as it serves zero purpose with the pistols and machine gun using no ammo.

Well I’m gonna be putting together a mapping resourcepack like the others I’ve made for ecwolf so maybe someone will be inspired.

I love this mod.

It's so cool having the dual pistols and occasionally running across rocket troopers (lightning guards) lol. I've only played a few levels so far but am REALLY enjoying it so far. I'll post more thoughts and opinions once I manage to play a little further into it.

I honestly got a laugh out of the first enemy I encountered who was pretending to be dead just like in Dark War. The mixed up enemy varieties really change the whole dynamic of Wolf3d quite a lot (in a good way.) The music really works well in changing the theme as well.

The Blue variety of Highguard that is armed with a flamethrower is definitely a deadly addition to the enemy roster but certainly keeps the player on their toes. Furthermore, the robot noise is a good indicator that the map is about to get quite difficult. Bravo. This is very well put together and is absolutely a blast to play.

This is a really nice mod! I remember looking at the released beta assets for Rise of the Triad and wondering what that version would play like, and this is pretty much that. Excellent work!

Nice little mod. Great to see all those early assets finally getting an outing in their (more or less I guess) intended environment and form. :thumb:
