Yeah, a lot of that kinda of thing is from the rushed release and a lot of it has been taken care of. Also, before someone catches it, yes, the Immolation alt-fire lacks a Boost sprite and the Groundslam costs 1 mana. Except the no mana thing with the boost. Thanks for the catch, I'll get on top of that right away.

As for the balance question, I'm playing it a lot by ear, but the idea is you are kinda an Alpha Baron of sorts, so you are stronger then them, but as it stands now you are too much stronger then them. And I find the Fireball spell to be way too strong but don't feel right about increasing it's cost, as it's fairly common to find it because it spawns so much more frequently then the M202. I want it to reliably kill Pinkies and lower, but not be able to kill, ahh, lets say a Hell Knight in one shot as it can now.

I won't be able to work on it too much tonight (Gaming night with friends) but one should expect a update Tuesday or Wednesday.

Rolling out the first wave of nerfs and some bug fixes, here's the next update!

Now for some explanation of the nerfs: the idea is that trash like zambos and imps are still easily dispatched, but larger monsters still have some weight. Now you can't just instantly blow away the surprise Baron In The Wall or Archviles, but they are still decently easy to kill. Also, large battles feel like battles, instead of just throwing a Fireball alt in the middle and the whole battle ending there.

And the Soul Siphon thing is intentionally. I felt like having an unlimited heal wouldn't really fit. Like having a heal in general is really powerful. I hope that makes sense. I'm having a hard time putting the logic to words.

Focus on the next one will be fixing the Boosted messages and reworking the Azazel a bit. Give it a little something to make up for not being Enchantable. The reason the message weren't just fixed now is the fix is a little more complicated then I expected. It's a little bit of a spaghetti method so I need some time to map it all out. Stay tuned, and as always, keep me up to date on thoughts!

Edit to avoid double triple posting and needless page 1 bump: Based on the poll results, I'll change around both max ammo/mana values and ammo/mana drops next release. Naturally its not going to be perfect on the first shot, so hold on to your butts.

EDIT AGAIN: Found a bug. When playing with Colorful Hell, the Immolation alt fire shoots purple Baron shots in a fan. Guess those are also called Baron Wave. Will fix soon.

I played around a litle bit, here are some of my opnions:

- I don't see a reason why Azazel , from a gameplay perspective , should not be able to be enchanted. Because of that , I have a suggestion : How about a enchanted Vulcan can shoot with perfect accuracy with higher firerate with its primary , and the secondary shot have an area of effect?

-> If you are looking for nerfs, I think you should take a look at the M61Vulcan , it kill the bosses WAY too fast. Maybe you can reduce the damage, but make it do multiple shot per bullet? Could make it for close encounters while the Azazel for longer ranges?


->Do you plan making a status bar? It does not have anything.

_> The immollation and devastation kind of has the same function...That is the "kill everything weapon with a great cost" , altough I don't have much suggestions for this one, this is more like a feeling.

At the time, I was thinking I couldn't think of a good enchantment for it that just wouldn't make it into the Vulcan, thus making it redundant. I'll give your suggestion a shot and see how I like it. Also me saying its too old to enchant was kinda a roundabout reference to the fact that it uses the beta Shadow Warrior shotgun sprite.

Yeah I noticed this too while I was playing through Sunlust before bed today. It was one of those things where I looked at the real world specs of a M61 Vulcan and it seems reasonable to me that it could kill a pinky with two bullets, and that was my standard of damage for it. It's back on the drawing board, so to say. Originally I thought that making it a lot rarer and having strong recoil would be enough, but I was wrong.

This is actually WIP as we speak. I'm not very far, but yeah I'm working on a HUD. Also, just to make sure, you are playing with screen size 11 right? I have a super basic HUD working in it now.

Devastation is also under the knife. I noticed it got super redundant, too. Originally it was for wiping out large rooms of enemies (so it was always really niche), but Immolation, especially with its Alt Fire can do the same thing for less.


Not going to say when another update is coming, because honestly they are getting more complicated as the mod grows, but know I am working on it, and it shouldn't be too much longer. I'm like halfway through a lot of fixes and stuff; I just need to finish some stuff off.

Hey we're back again with another small update. I know the updates are small and far apart, which is jarring, considering how fast and big they were before, but I ask for your patience. Real life has been busy/stressful, so I've been hard pressed to find the time/focus to work on the mod. I'm still plugging away when the streaks of time and motivation hit.

Enough bitching from me, here it is. Ammo nerfs AHOY.

Notes about the new beta from me:
- Flak Cannon now sounds significantly better. I also do very like the new graphical effects for it.
- Still no SFX for basic/enhanced melee attacks.
- I am fine with the new footstep sound. Baron also is more controllable now, since his inertia in negligible this time.
- I think the permament power-ups (like the one that grants Enhanced Claws) should give some Mana when you find more of them (like in the case of Backpack from Vanilla Doom that always gives you a small amount of ammo, but expands carry capacity only once).
- Basic Baron Ball consumes no Mana. Is this intentional?
- Immolation Alt Fire colour while playing with Colourful Hell is unchanged - still purple.
- Azazel still has no unique trait to make up for it being unenchantable.
- Vulcan fires off a volley of enchanted rounds even if you are out of Mana, since the gun can still be enchanted with no Mana. Granted, it will return to normal after the volley, but then you can enchant it for a moment again without Mana available. Not really practical, but still easily doable exploit.

Whew, sorry for the late reply! My ISP shut off my internet again for no reason. Payment didn't go through properly again.

Anyway I've been sitting on this newest update for few days now, so I'm happy to finally release it! Before I get into it, though...Due to the sudden surge of votes in the nerf poll to not nerf, future nerfs won't nearly be as dramatic, and I'll begin pulling back some recent ones, either lessening the nerf or removing it completely. The only reason I'm still going forward with nerfs at all is because there still seems to be a strong desire for nerfs, but not a specific one. Plus, internally balance was something that felt off before, to me at least, and its something I'm striving for.

As for a more focused thing, I think you'll find some of your issues fixed in this here update!

Now for misc stuff that isn't in the change log; yes, BB is supposed to be free. I'm in the middle of re-working it, and besides, all Barons can do it infinitely, so why wouldn't The Baron? It was also a way to help offset the brutally lowered starting mana total. The Enhanced Claw mana thing is coming in a hot fix later tonight; I wanted to get this version out now before I head into work but I only work a half shift so I'll get it in there when I get home...assuming Nioh doesn't distract me first. Also, fun fact, the Colorful Hell bug worked both ways; sometimes Purple Barons would shoot The Baron's Immolation Alt. Needless to say this made them unintentionally super difficult.

The Azazel is beginning it's transition into a more unique weapons with this update, too. In addition to it fire mode rework, it's going to (doesn't have it yet!) have an ability where you can quick cast your currently selected spell with the Zoom key. All the spells would have the cast time of Baron Ball, but would have reduced effects, i.e. Fireball would have a small explosive radius, or Immolation would fire a small version of the Alt. Expect it next update, along with a slight Vulcan buff (I went a little overboard on the recoil), a little nerf of Belial ammo (for some reason the box of canisters always spawns. It's inconsistent to the Box of Missiles and the Box of Bullet spawns which have a chance to be a big soul) and more tweaks!

Final note: I know it seems like I'm putting off the claw sound thing. That's because, in the interest of honesty, I am. I also know that I've been promising the Bruiser Sphere since day 1, and it still is nowhere to be seen. That's because I haven't full decided on how I'm going to do it. Like I have the skill to do it, I'm just bouncing between two methods of doing it. However, seeing as how I'm finally over my slump and back at active development, I don't expect to be stuck on it for much longer. Also, Devastation is going to get remade in the near future. I know in my personal play I almost never use it outside of just for dramatic effect.

Assuming Nioh doesn't destroy my workflow.

EDIT: Holy hotfix. In my haste I forgot to even check if it worked. It didn't. It's fixed now. Also picking up enhanced claws gives you mana.

Can you tell me what the error is and your GZDoom version? I've gotten it to start on both the dev build and the release build of GZDoom.

E: hmm. Based on your other thread activity, either you're trolling or your GZDoom is incredibly outdated.

Here we are again with a pretty big update. I should probably be doing the KanColle event but here I am doing Doom instead.

I got my hands on the Blood beast hand sprites, and those are the basis for the Baron hands. I'm going to mess around with them for a bit and see what I can do. In the meantime, in addition to the poll, what kinda of Quality of Life tweaks would you like to see? Even if you've said it before, say it again; I'm a tad forgetful and I really don't want to dig through pages of fairly long posts. Naturally, I always want to hear your thoughts, concerns and comments!

Edit on 2/20: Getting Melee right is taking significantly longer then expected. I was hoping to get a release out tonight, but it might be a week or so. Getting the back hand (the Baron's "kick") to A.)Work and B.)Work consistently, is being a giant pain in the ass.

Kadu, I don't think the baron really needs and HP increase , 1000 HP is a lot.
Also, I think that it should not be possible to increase his hp beyond 1000 since bigger than that makes him way too resilient.

Dalse beat me to it. I'm pretty satisfied with The Baron's durability right now, so I'm not going to do anything with it; I might take the damage reduction away, but that wouldn't be until much later and after lots of personal testing.
