Re: jdredalert presents: Predators - Hellspawn Hunters [v0.1
I think it's good to keep everyone that is following this project informed that yes, it still alive and kicking. I had a tough week and couldn't focus here. Also, i made some updates to the Aliens: Colonial Marines Weapon Pack and that kept me busy. But as i promised, i'll update the Predators this weekend. Maybe tomorrow night, depending on my working speed.
In the new update the players will be introduced to the antagonistic Light and Heavy Predators, which have they own gameplay styles, weapons and some new pickup items to replace the vanilla ones. I think the next update may feel even more like an alpha build than the previous, thanks to the new additions. This is still an early testing ground But everyone can be sure that every new update will focus on making the game better and better.
Coming soon!

Re: Predators - Hellspawn Hunters [v0.2a] UPDATE!
Update! Version 0.2a is available on the first page! Note that the project is still on alpha stage, so some things may be changed or added in the future. Here's the changelog:
Spoiler:Note that the new player classes are still lacking some weapons. The Heavy Predator has no slot 7 weapon, while the Light Predator has no slot 2, 3 and 7 weapons. These will be added in the future. Also, the Heavy Predator combos are very limited to this point. You have only one basic combo with the Double Wristblades and with the Sword. New combos will be added in future releases. For now, i'm lacking some sprites and patience for more complex ones, and i got some real life stuff to take care these days. But i hope you guys enjoy.

The mod plays pretty well so far, even being in its early stages. I like how the wristblades lets you slice the heads off enemies; do you plan on adding some functionality to the trophies? It'd be cool if every trophy collected added +1 to your HP or damage or something. Will you be adding more gore as well? It'd be nice to have the SmoothDoom animations or something mixed in to spice up the default bestiary a bit.

Re: Predators - Hellspawn Hunters [v0.2a] UPDATE!
Well, in the future (for now it's kinda distant, but it will eventually come) i'm planning to give some kind of "experience" value or whatever to the trophies, so you would level up and become a more efficient Predator. But i'm still not focused on it. About the violence, I think more gore can be good. Maybe more blood (but nothing too exaggerated) and new custom deaths. Also, i will probably do something about the enemy attacks, for they look (and sound) better.
And i'm glad you guys liked it! Makes all my work be worth, thank you. And remember that all feedback is welcome.

Re: Predators - Hellspawn Hunters [v0.2a] UPDATE!
Found and fixed little bug. The Heavy Predator was unable to pick any slot 3 weapons. Reuploaded the file, sorry for the inconvenience.
Re: Predators - Hellspawn Hunters [v0.2a] UPDATE!
I tried out the latest version you put out. Here is some feedback:
1. Light Predator - He was OK, movement speed and critical hits from claws was nice. Needs more weapons though, and maybe be able to hold a 2nd disc?
2. Heavy Predator - Honestly, he kind of sucked
. Has too many melee weapons and not enough range weapons. The rocket pickups for the wrist rocket were too rare as well. Maybe if they had a chance to drop from enemies, that would fix that issue. I am not sure why the Heavy Predator has an option for 1 or 2 sets of wrist blades, that seemed very pointless.
I noticed you beefed up the enemies this time around. Honestly they are kind of imbalanced due to the lack of weapons these Predators have. I would suggest that you move these new monster features to Nightmare mode until the classes are sorted out and ready. Heavy Predator has the worst time trying to fight enemies because they projectile spam often, especially when he needs to get close to fight which is why he isn't very good currently. Chaingunners were by far the most ridiculous enemy, they mow you down in seconds if you don't see it coming. It might be more fair if the Predators had some sort of damage reduction passive when using a melee weapon? That could help too.

Let me comment your comment :Valherran wrote:I tried out the latest version you put out. Here is some feedback:

1 - It won't be a light predator if he carries too many weapons. The second disc would be a good idea if it were weak but since it's already overpowered having a second one will be pointless.
2 - The Heavy Predator asks for some strategy adjustments because as you mentioned he is a melee-oriented predator but where he lacks speed and range weapons he can handle himself quite well in melee combat - Have you tried the combo? You'll see why a 2-bladed predator is not pointless

I'm agree with you about some enemies being a bit too overpowered but the problem with the Predator is to balance everything while keeping the badass nature of the Predator. What i mean is everyone wants a badass predator but everyone also wants a challenging experience while some wants to have it easy. It's hard to balance stuff to keep everyone happy.
However as you said some damage reduction would be welcomed

Re: Predators - Hellspawn Hunters [v0.2a] UPDATE!
Well, they are both incomplete. They will have more weapons, but i'm kinda...uncreative these days, thanks to some personal shit that's going on. But here's the deal:Valherran wrote:Spoiler:
The Light Predator will have more weapons that causes bleed or poison damage. I'm thinking in throwable knives or bombs, i'm not sure yet. The same goes for the Heavy. He's the melee fighter, but yeah, he needs a little buff in range. Although i'm playing with the Heavy in both Doom 2 and TNT wads and not having that much trouble, i understand that he can be hard to play. But as soon as you get both Plasma Caster and the Disk everything becomes a lot easier. Also, the mod is far for complete. Every class will have it's own armors, and The Heavy Predator will wear the best protective gears around, after all since they are always facing the enemy at short-to-medium ranges, a good protection is more than needed. I also forgot to add an extra big rockets pickup that replaces the blursphere and modify the backpack (which i'll be using as a placeholder) to give you Predator's ammo instead Doomguy's.
The double/single blades issue weren't supposed to happen. Mostly you can't use both, unless you cheat with any "all weapons" codes. Than the code will give you the regular blade, which i forgot to set forbidden to the Heavy guy.
About the enemies, i think some of them were already beefed in the previous release... but anyway, keep in mind that the lesser foes forget about you after a while. Hide, cloak and be always patient. All four Predators can be very destructive to any kind of enemy, bosses included, but you can't just throw yourself in the meat grinder like you do with the Doomguy. They are Hunters, so hunt your enemies down.

Re: Predators - Hellspawn Hunters [v0.2a] UPDATE!
I think i understood what he mean. After a quick "give all" command, i've noticed that the Heavy Pred was given the single arm blades as well. This won't happen in the next update.Endless123 wrote: You'll see why a 2-bladed predator is not pointless

I noticed it after I died and restarted that it let me select single blades, which is why I mentioned it.jdredalert wrote:I think i understood what he mean. There is plenty of weapons to rip from the other AvP games and/or make custom sprites for some that are not FPS sprites. If you want I can send you a PM on the goodies that haven't been used yet for you to work with.Well, they are both incomplete. They will have more weapons, but i'm kinda...uncreative these days

Re: Predators - Hellspawn Hunters [v0.2a] UPDATE!
I would love to see those goodies. You see, i've tried all AvP games but only AvP 2 had weapons really worthy the ripping work, and even after i captured the most frames i could, now i feel that i need custom hand sprites. The problem is that i can't drawn anything. I can crop, cut, paste, frankensprite a lot and change colors, but that's it. I really need some help in the graphical part.
Re: Predators - Hellspawn Hunters [v0.2a] UPDATE!
It might help to make the spears launched from the spear gun a little more visible, since sometimes it's hard to tell if you're hitting your target or not.
