All the kids are talking about the holiday season’s hottest line of action figures: the Decorate-Breakin’ Kringles. Too bad they’re sold out on this planet! If Doomguy doesn’t want to disappoint his son, he’s going to have to jingle all the way across the galaxy for some ultra-last-minute shopping. Of course, getting his hands on the last remaining DBK figures might require getting a little aggressive—especially when he's elbow-to-elbow with toy-scalping alien bastards, homicidal space gnomes, and merchandising-mad Spaceballs. But you know what they say: a father’s work is never done!

After a longer-than-expected hiatus, the DBK are back for round 2. This time we're getting festive—IN SPACE! Bringing together a bestiary from several space- and Christmas-themed Doom projects past, DBK02 will find Doomguy trekking across the galaxy to do some last-minute Christmas shopping (those checkout lines can be murder, amirite?). We're looking for fun and generous maps that feel classic but tastefully bring in some modern ZDoom-y features.

RULES
1. Target compatibility is ZDoom 2.8.1, but also make sure your map doesn't break in recent GZDoom. Allowed formats are UDMF, Hexen, and ZDoom: Doom 2 formats.
2. Maps should be modest in length; aim for 4-15 minutes.
3. No jumping or crouching; freelook is optional. Jumping and crouching on land is disabled via MAPINFO, but should still work for swimmable water. Design your maps accordingly.
4. Don't go overboard with advanced features. Maps should "feel Doom-y" at their core.
5. Many stock textures are blacked out for thematic consistency. Blacked-out resources should not be used. Do not add your own resources!
6. The GUIDE text lump has a list of the music tracks. Use MAPINFO to set music track for your own map. You can use your own music as long as it's cool and good.
7. Do not implement difficulty settings initially. Post your map first and let others assess it first.
8. Get your maps in by December 1st! After a few weeks of polishing, refining, and sequencing, the project will be released on Christmas Eve, December 24th.
9. Submitted maps may be modified by the project leader for quality control and error fixing purposes.
10. IMPORTANT: Include one (1) DBK Boxed Action Figure (thing name: "GenericDBKToyBox") in a secret in your map. In the release version, this toy will be a personalized representation of you, the mapper, as action figure! (Please let us know about your preferences re: being depicted--by default we'll base it on your avatar.)

Hope you can make it onboard Endless! A short 5min piece is more than acceptable, doesn’t need to be War and Peace.

Just to expand a little on the maps in the respack: In the resource pack you’ll find a MAP01 which acts as a display piece for all of the custom monsters and objects, as well as some potential location themes, and also has some gameplay to it. It’s recommended for prospective mappers to go through this map from start to finish, will take roughly 5mins.

MAP02 is a short fully playable map by gaspe that shows off classic Doomy gameplay and layout in a ZDoom context. Maps of this length are more than acceptable, and welcome, as it’s nice to get bite size pieces to break up the lengthier efforts some of us DBK old heads are known for.

A note about consistency is that we’d like all green and orange nukage to be damaging.

The GUIDE lump in the resource wad that Bill mentioned also contains some important useful info about texture theme groupings. There are a substantial amount in the pack, but have been broken up and prefixed to make it easy to quickly move around the texture selection box in the editor. The prefixes and relevant groups are listed in the GUIDE lump.

The DB Krew were working, on their latest opus.

They had brainstormed a theme, to make our hearts race,
Big Ol' Billy said, "This time, we'll head out to space!"

"A quest for action figures, will be a nice jaunt,
Doomguy will hunt toys, until he is gaunt!"

To Slade and Doom Builder, the DB Krew sped,
While visions of Cacowards, danced in their heads.

Updated resource pack in the OP, we're now at v2.
Changes:
  • Improved Cyberneezer Scrooge death (no longer shoots out health bonuses)
  • Big Ol' Billy poster and doll
I've also got a pretty sizable map to go with it!

Planet of the Cyber-Scrooges PLAYS MAP01, use resources v2!

Scanners indicate a large concentration of humbug on this planet...
