Bourgeois DM, featuring Single Player! [RELEASED!]
Hello ZDoom users, here I have a complete 30 level set made by myself and my co-conspirators Decay and Razgriz.

Here's the FINAL VERSION: https://doomshack.org/uploads/bourgdm.zip
Despite that this is both a deathmatch oriented and pure vanilla mapset - two things that really don't come to mind when one thinks of ZDoom modding - I really want to hear what ZDoomers think of this wad. The community here has always been super helpful and insightful whenever I post projects.
We have really tried our damnedest to push vanilla to it's absolute limits with this one. Bug reports and playtesting are invaluable, but in addition to that we want to know if it's good at "faking it" hard enough to fit in with, say, the common Boom or ZDoom wad? In other words, have we pushed vanilla hard enough for it's limitations to not seem directly present in comparsion to what you'd expect from a vanilla wad?
HAVE FUN!

Re: Bourgeois DM (featuring Single Player support!) RC Downl
Quite an interesting idea, turning deathmatch maps into single player. (And not the UT/Q3A way, either) While I can't say it's the first time I've seen that, I can say it's not something I see often.
I only played the first couple of levels so far, and I think the maps are beautiful, the monsters do feel a little slaughtery though, but with a ssg that isn't too terrible I guess.
Telefragging the Romero head with some barrels to death-exit is a nice touch though.

Thanks for the comments, Rachael! We're definitely considering toning down the monster count for HMP, just so there can be a not-so-slaughtery option, hopefully that will help the wad's overall appeal.

Looks cool Doomkid!
Although I'm still on the first map and continually get squashed by it, I love the premise of just having DM maps populated by monsters too.
I know this has been done before, but as Rachael said it's not all that common.

Definitely reinforces the idea that we need to implement more thorough skill settings. Thanks for the feedback Voltcom!

What I currently do not get is: Are these existing dm maps or newly created ones where you added monsters afterwards?

Despite being mainly a GZDoom user, I'm a sucker for maps that just about dances around the vanilla limits (in other words, just the right amount of lines for detail). Loving the architecture in this map set. :D I did play through it with my own set of gameplay and weapon mods though, so perhaps it's not fair to give any critique gameplay-wise yet. Will do a modless playthrough soon. :)

More than half of what's here is brand new material. There are also a good handful of once-UDMF/Hexen format maps that have been converted back into vanilla format, but even then most of those ended up so different that they're almost like new maps even so.Tormentor667 wrote:What I currently do not get is: Are these existing dm maps or newly created ones where you added monsters afterwards?
Also, each map has a different version for SP - complete with modified architecture which often requires keys, buttons etc to progress. We've really tried to make it more than just "mad dash to the exit on a DM map that happens to have some enemies".
Thanks for the compliment Nash, and any comment on how we can improve gameplay - mods or no - is most definitely welcome.Nash wrote:Despite being mainly a GZDoom user, I'm a sucker for maps that just about dances around the vanilla limits (in other words, just the right amount of lines for detail). Re: Bourgeois DM (featuring Single Player support!) RC Downl
Alright so I've played in about 6 maps so far.
As for the difficulty settings, I've lowered my difficulty setting and now can play past the first map lol. I can tell you that map 3, 4 are way easier than the first 2 maps. I really like how each map is a forced pistol start as a result of the Romero head exit. The new weapons (a couple are familiar from Rowdy Rudy) are absolutely awesome when dispatching out legions of Hellspawn.
The most noticeable new additions are the assault rifle (pistol replacement) and the hurricane fists which are god damned lethal once you get the berserk pack.
I'm really enjoying the maps so far, and will offer constructive criticism as I make it further through the maps.
Good stuff so far.

Hey everyone, here's the FINAL release candidate! If no bugs are found soonish, this will be the version that makes it's way to /idgames.
Download it here: (old URL removed)
Any extra feedback is greatly appreciated, as always! I think the new difficulty settings are much more thorough and fair, compared to older builds.

Re: Bourgeois DM featuring Single Player support! RC3 Downlo
Just posting the latest RC here!
(outdated link removed)
We've gotten some great feedback on the MP side of things after a ZDaemon Session ran this wad! Here's a video of the session from SilverIce:
Still hoping for a bit more testing/feedback on the single player front, so please don't hesitate to boot this up and take the demons on for size. Every map has difficulty settings thoroughly implemented now - even though we'd previously stated RC2 to be the "final" RC, the wad has many general fixes from RC2, mainly on the SP side of things, particularly with balancing the skill levels.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated

One last bump, because this thing is done! Yay!
Here is the FINAL VERSION: https://doomshack.org/uploads/bourgdm.zip
Have fun!
(I also decided to make a promotional video for this wad, with hopes of maybe getting some more exposure and - if we're very lucky - the potential to be added as an official Unity addon, so that console players have some good DM turf.)
