WinterStronghold.wad Release

Post by jakob »

Well, this is the first of my wads to actually see a release. I made it over one day while I was snowed in as something less ambitious than my previous attempts at mapping - it's pretty short, and complete with all of the clichés you would expect from a first Doom map. I'm hoping to do more like this in the future though, so feedback, especially comments on pacing, would be greatly appreciated.

Download is available here, and here are some screenshots:

Glad you liked it :) That's motivation enough for me to do some more maps with this theme.

Not bad for a first map release. :) I like your consistent texture theme and the overall feel of the map. The map was admittedly pretty easy (although I don't have an issue with this ;) ).

There's one misalignment near (1200, 0):

Thanks for the feedback! This is pretty unusual, though, I can't seem to find the misalignment you mentioned, and I could've sworn I used SW1BRN1 there.

Derp - that was probably a different problem then. You used a placeholder switch that the id devs lazily kept in until the last minute to keep the doom2.exe executable from bombing out despite not having the assets required to render the actual switch from Doom 1.

It was my special crafted IWAD that had the textures of both Doom 2 and Doom 1 causing the problem, in this case. >_>

Fun map - cool aesthetic, I'd love to see more like this.

I recorded an FDA for you as well:
