What do you have your inventory keys bound to?
What do you have your inventory keys bound to?
I've been playing reelism 2 early excess and, frankly, I really don't like the default gzdoom bindings for the inventory. I have to move my hand to the other side of the keyboard. What do you have your inventory bound to? i would like to avoid using q and r as well since i have those bound to zoom and reload as well (i know reelism doesn't use them but i like to keep my controls consistent for every mod). Any suggestions?

The default. But then, I do play left handed and so I don't have to move my hand to the other side of the keyboard.

It depends on what my mouse is. On most setups I'll have Q and C for left and right, with a wheel click to use. But if I'm using a mouse with a rocker wheel, I'll use that to shift through the inventory items instead.

Usually I go with Z and X for left and right, and T for activate. But sometimes I'll toggle one of my extra mouse buttons to it. Sometimes it depends on what features are available in the game though.

i have mouse scroll up down and mouse button use for inventory - and that should be default GZdoom setting.
i find annoying to weapon change on mouse scroll, weapon wheel FTW or just press number.

I actually use F2 and F3 for selecting with Q using the item, mostly because then I don't have to move my hand from movement keys. (as I play with WASD)
Now for Strife I also have mouse wheel and middle mouse button bound for inventory management, since Strife is inventory-heavy and I select weapons with number keys anyways.
Well, since Q won't work for you, there are many keys that you can use.
Experiment and see what works best for you.

I use this for Hideous Destructor, Heretic, and Hexen. But, for various other games I still use the wheel to cycle through weapons and the brackets + ENTER for inventory usage.Lagi wrote:i have mouse scroll up down and mouse button use for inventory.

Same here. Strange that this was never considered when the WASD preset got made...

I use an X360 controller, so I cycle inventory items with D-Pad Left and D-Pad Right, activate with D-Pad Down.

Re: What do you have your inventory keys bound to?
I'll be blunt, forget about the left/right/use inventory keys, they're abysmal for many mods. It's more useful to bind items to their own key. For that I have Q/E/X/C/F/V nearby that are used for different mod controls. However I make use of keys with total abandon. Pgup/pgdn for toggling weapon states in Doom Incarnate, KP0 for chaos device or equivalent and sometimes other numpad keys for other items and CVar adjustment, N/M for armor in DRLA. Ultimately it should be about what makes sense for you and works, that's why the controls are changeable.
Also if you do use dedicated item keys, sometimes they won't be bindable without the console. For that you need "printinv" or to dig through the mod source. "invquery" sadly prints the friendly item name, not the internal one.

mousewheel left/right for prev/next item, mousewheel click for item use.
