Um, seeing as how he just grabbed the shareware version, why are you all suggesting editors?

Just a note, you "shall not" edit the shareware game, that's why it is shareware.

I don't intend on Editing the Shareware games.

And I got the Wadauthor and when I try testing a map off of it it doesn't work, It has the error saying "Error: Could not Execute" or something like that.. Any suggestions on what is wrong?

Yes, you have to edit your zdoom.wcf file to have it point correctly to zdoom.exe. It's in the first part of the file, you'll see something like this:

[WadGame]
Name=ZDoom (Hex)
IWAD=zdiwhack.wad
NewMap=MAP01
Directory=C:\Games\editors\zdoom
Run=zdoom.exe -file $_Wadfile -warp $_Wadmap

Make sure that the Directory line points to a folder where you have zdoom installed. If you are using doom2.wcf, you can do the same as above so it'll use zdoom.exe instead of doom2.exe.

If you get "map cannot be run" from WadAuthor, that usually means that you have to build the nodes (select "force node build" from menus and save).

And you have to add this to the top of your wauthor.ini file:

[DEBUG]
NoWARun=1

I don't get it... I can find the file! Exactly which file do I edit, is it the one that comes with Wadauthor? Or the Zdoom one? And if it's a .wcf file how do I edit it?

By the way, is there any way you can play Zdoom games without having to have Zdoom?

With notepad.

(and before anyone nitpicks, that's editing wcf's, not playing ZDoom games without ZDoom...why that would be a silly proposition)

The file is zdoom.wcf, in your wadauthor folder. Oh, you probably don't have that file, it doesn't come with WadAuthor. Look for the doom2.wcf file, start there. The zdoom.wcf file is in the download area of this web site when you are ready to do more advanced editing using scripts and newer zdoom features. There are a few more steps to getting it set up and running, including running a copy of your doom2.wad through zwadconv.exe, then pointing WadAuthor to it (see the zdiwhack.wad entry in my file above).

I guess technically there is no "zdoom game". There is Doom, Heretic and Hexen, and the ability to mix features from the three, using zdoom as the engine to play them.

Okay, I edited one of the .wcf files but now I get an error saying "it can't be run in DOS mode"...

In that .wcf file, make sure it points to zdoom.exe, not doom.exe or doom2.exe. Something like this:

[WadGame]
Name=DOOM ][: Hell On Earth
IWAD=DOOM2.WAD
NewMap=MAP01
Directory=C:\Games\zdoom
Run=zdoom.exe -file $_Wadfile -warp $_Wadmap

and also, very important what Ultimate Doomer said:

"And you have to add this to the top of your wauthor.ini file:

[DEBUG]
NoWARun=1"
