My project Daytime Drama has less abstract places. A truck stop, junkyard, cinema, grocery store and a TV station are featured. Admittedly not as detailed as some, but similar to the way Duke Nukem 3D had done it, and technically it's standalone and not a Doom2 megawad. DD2 is trying to go for less abstract places but not the same as DD1 did.

I'd also recommend Harmony and the Action Doom series for having really nice attention to detail and places that feel real like axredneck did. I remember being blown away by Action Doom 2's levels.

If you're willing to use Risen 3D, give Last Warrior a shot. Sitters has created unbelievably realistic environments.

Yes, it looks realistic, but it doesn't look like Doom anymore. I personally find it far more appealing if someone tries to create something that's supposed to resemble a realistic location but do it with a style that more resembles the mid 90's. Like most of those old Build games did.

Bauhaus mixes abstractness with a few recreations of actual buildings.

Thanks so much for the replies so far.

The Ashes maps are great fun to play through, Hellbound and Daytime Drama are great as well. Lost Civilization is kind of overwhelming in a good way.

try HoE Starter Pack without Brutal doom. Recommended turn ON double ammo before starting, or you will be out of ammo sometimes for a long time
