Why are GZDoom's default settings the way they are?
The default settings are very ugly looking and I have never seen anyone say anything good about them, why are they the way they are?

Ugly is relative. They are the way they are because those were my personal preferences back in 2005 when the first release was made.

What settings are we talking about? I've never had a major problem with them.

At least they can be changed to your liking.Crackers0106 wrote:The default settings are very ugly looking and I have never seen anyone say anything good about them, why are they the way they are?

Really? We're going to nitpick over something that you experience for 5 minutes tops and that you can change?
Wow.
Wow.

Should also note this conversation has been had many many times and I don't think it needs repeating.

Who ever talks about the default unmarked configuration of anything except to complain?

There is absolutely no way to configure something without some odd person coming along saying that they do not like it and cannot accept the idea that other people might tick differently. Even if the keyboard control was changed to WASD the same would happen.
Re: Why are GZDoom's default settings the way they are?
Well, WASD certainly wouldn't suit me.Graf Zahl wrote:Even if the keyboard control was changed to WASD the same would happen.

I'm not even left handed, and I can't stand WASD. Arrow keys all the way.

I trust it's not too postcount++ish to second my EDSF support.
Also we still don't even know what the default settings are that the OP is complaining about.

Re: Why are GZDoom's default settings the way they are?
It's really not relevant, and every time this topic comes up it goes the same way.
@ OP: Create a gzdoom.ini file to override the defaults to your liking, they're not going to change.

First impressions last.Rachael wrote:Really? We're going to nitpick over something that you experience for 5 minutes tops and that you can change?
Wow.
If I had to guess, it'd probably be the nasty bilinear pixel filtering Quake-O-Vision being turned on by default, since it's the first thing I see damn near anyone who tries GZDoom howling for advice on how to change (usually followed by howling about how anyone could think it's a good idea to have that as default). Sure, that might sound like an exaggeration, but it's not.Matt wrote:Also we still don't even know what the default settings are that the OP is complaining about.
Re: Why are GZDoom's default settings the way they are?
On the flip side, I reckon if GZDoom defaulted to a vanilla-like appearance (which is what some people ask how to achieve) the first impression would be "OMG I thought GZDoom was supposed to be an OpenGL port, this is crap".
