Can't get any Frontends to work
Can't get any Frontends to work
Hey all, it's been a while. I just recently got a new PC (with Windows 10) and I'm ready to play some GZDoom mods. Sadly, I am still a noob and can't get any Frontends to work. I'm not sure what to tell you guys other than it says "unable to launch game process" for ZDL and ZDE, and I don't know if Doom Launcher will work because the menu layout for it confuses me.
Has anyone else had any of these problems? Is windows 10 just shit for running frontends? Is there another way I run pwads easily?

Personally I find using a batch file, while a bit more involved, will work wonders.

Re: Can't get any Frontends to work
Might need some help with batch files. I made one, but I can't seem to run it.
I feel like there should be more to it than this, but this is the only direction I could find. :/
EDIT: Apparently, there isn't. I needed to but "gzdoom instead of zdoom" and just open the batch.
Code: Select all
zdoom -file nowthatswhaticallmidi.pk7, bd21testApr25.pk3

Okay nevermind it's not working now...
First it just ran bratwurst, but now it's just not running anything. What do?
I don't understand. I had this shitty laptop that ran qzdoom no problem and now I can't play GZDoom on an i7 processor desktop. I can't run any wads on GZDoom unless I want to play a single one, or hope the load order works when I click and drag. I am livid.
I'm ready to either go back to windows 7 and hope that works or give up on single player GZDoom because Zandronum is the only thing that works on Windows 10 (or at least my pc).
Code: Select all
gzdoom -file epic2.wad, epic2gl.wad, Bratwurst-Monsters_V3c.wad

Don't use commas. You need only put a space between filenames.

Thanks wildweasel.

Whats with all the launchers and batch files? The most EASIEST way is to drag and drop .wads and .pk3s over the gzdoom.exe icon.

This is wonderfully easy, yeah, but when load order is important for one reason or another it's not specific enough.ramon.dexter wrote:Whats with all the launchers and batch files? The most EASIEST way is to drag and drop .wads and .pk3s over the gzdoom.exe icon.

I usually load only one two files, so I dont need to care for load order

You also don't really care for providing useful (or accurate) answers to people's questions.ramon.dexter wrote:I usually load only one two files, so I dont need to care for load order

Re: Can't get any Frontends to work
I'd like to leave a friendly reminder that, even in a situation where you only have two files, it's still possible for there to be resource conflicts. For example, try running Eternal Doom with Smooth Doom, with Eternal loaded after Smooth, and watch in amazement as the imps change colors mid-animation.ramon.dexter wrote:I usually load only one two files, so I dont need to care for load order

Yeah dragging and dropping is really crude. Just like what wildweasel said, even two wads should be loaded in a proper order. Typically you run maps first.
Re: Can't get any Frontends to work
Okay, so apparently renaming GZDoom to QZDoom also fixed my problem with running frontends.
I appreciate batch files and I'll probably still use them when need be.
