Hexen demo, Strife demo, Hacx support

Post by BBG »

Why can't ZDooM read the Hexen demo (named hexen.wad, but maybe ZDooM could look for hexen1.wad?) and Strife demo, which is Strife0.wad and Hacx, which is Hacx.wad and Hacx.deh.

Please add support for this, Randy? AFAIK, it already has Strife demo support, but I may have heard wrong.[/b]

AFAIK, the Hexen demo wad was never "official", which is why it wasn't considered shareware, I believe.

Raven Software's official Hexen site contains the demo. It's an official release.

Strife support isn't in becuase the Strife source isn't released. And it takes a LOT moer than just being able to open the maps to play the game. Strife has a lot of coding in it that's unique. Without the source, it would be basically an emulator. It's doable, but difficult.

And I've not heard of the other. However, being a .deh tells me it's a user modification. .deh depends on the .exe version. Many modificatiosn were made in v 1.666 or earlier. There is usually a way to convert them to 1.9, which is what the current programs need to use.

Hacx is actually a commercial release. Also, it is for version 1.9, the .deh file.

Second, if it needs a .deh, then it STILL sounds like a mod, not a stand-alone product. Are you sure Hacx.wad even *IS* an iwad, and not just another pwad?

BBG: zdoom -iwad hacx -bex hacx.deh -warp 1 probably suffices?

Hirogen, I think BBG meant that HACX.wad does not appear in ZDooM's dialog box, in which other IWADs are listed.

An alternative to the command line you suggested is to use Sparky's HACXPort.

Actually, now that I consider it, I think it would be cool if there was an ini like load.ini which you could "define" wads to be loaded at startup in the Multiple IWAD list for wads that are not really IWADs, but are like, your fav add-ons or something.
