GZDoom Performance Problem
Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
I just downloaded r540 and did a quick test, set sv_fastweapons to 2, chose the mage class, and continously fired the second (ice spell) weapon at a wall, in a short distance. my fps was 12-13.
I did the same thing with 1-2-01 and my fps was 3. Massive amounts of projectiles or dynamic light effects seem less laggy with r540, it would seem. (\o/ yay)
Another test, with Cold as Hell second edition.
I stood at the end of the airplane in the beginning, so that on both sides i see the little windows.
1-2-01: 24-25 fps
r540: 22-25 fps
Seemed to be pretty much the same with this one.
Edit: I used 1024x768 as resolution, all shaders on.

Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
Hm. And you said, when you use '-sm2' on the new version you got about the same performance? If that's true it can't be the new shaders.TIHan wrote:Testing GZDoom 1.2.0.1, at map09 hc20, I was getting 40FPS at 1920x1080 on my ATI. Newer GZDoom revisions its around 32-33FPS.
Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
Correct.
Also, I just tried r540 GZDoom, Instead of 33 FPS, I was getting 35FPS.

Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
Can you please recheck with r546?
Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
http://svn.drdteam.org/gzdoom/
Only seems to have 545, but no 546.
I tried it with 545 and performance didn't seem to change from 540. At least, when I did the sv_fastweapons with the mage's ice spell.
EDIT: Also, why does the screen resolution settings have that last line "press t to test for 5 seconds" only visible when scrolled down to it?
EDIT2: Well, i thought it might have been a typo, whatever. @545/546

Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
I said 546, not 545. I made a small change for testing purposes but you may have to wait until it's available.
Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
I've just uploaded a build of r546. However I must warn that it terminates instantly, without even a crash dialog, when I try to start a new game with it.

Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
I accidentally committed something I wanted to test but forgot it was still in. Obviously it didn't work.
Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
Just tried r545, still no change in performance for r540.

Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
That doesn't come as a surprise considering that the change I need to have checked was only done in r546...
Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
I just tested r547, it seems to be the same performance level, but fps was generally at 36fps instead of 34-35fps that I was getting.

Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
Hm. Ok. Then I'm out of ideas. I think I had disabled everything new since 2.3.1 in that build.
Without an ATI card I probably won't be able to find this - and I have no computer where I can put one in. My main computer is out as it is a machine I do work on so I cannot afford to make it unstable even the slightest bit.

Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
Is there no possible way you could help out ATI performance? Is there any way?
I just tested r548, I was getting 36-37fps. FPS is going up in each of your new builds by a small bit. Compared to the 33fps I was getting before when I started this thread, 4fps is a good improvement especially for that level.

My new Radeon HD 5850 plays Fallout 3 with 8x AA at 1600x1200 pretty nice.
Re: GZDoom Performance Problem
Nice. But what about GZDoom Hellcore 2.0 Map09 right at spawn at 1920x1080?randy wrote:My new Radeon HD 5850 plays Fallout 3 with 8x AA at 1600x1200 pretty nice.
