DooM Sound Effects in Other Media
DooM Sound Effects in Other Media
I was watching the Discovery Channel, and I heard them play the Hell Knight death sound. So it occured to me, since the DooM sounds are pubic public domain, it stands to reason that the sound effects would be present in other media.
In fact, this theory was proven the last time I watched The Santa Clause, when one of the reindeer gets mad, he utters an imp death sound.
So name your own examples.

A lot of the Doom monster noises were distorted animal sounds. In Powerslave, your camel makes a groan like an imp.
I remember hearing the big door sound in an episode of Rugrats.

Re: DooM Sound Effects in Other Media
This has been done a few times over at Doomworld.
BTW, the sounds are not "public domain" but are part of a commercial sound library.
You hear the sounds in a few places, eg a camel in Indiana Jones and the boss brain shooting sound is so common that I think I hear it at least once a month in some other movie or game.
Interestingly, a Doctor Who episode (The Impossible Planet) which had a very Doom-like feel to it quite consciously (I believe) used the Doom door sounds.

What does a big door sound have to do with Rugrats?Ceeb wrote:I remember hearing the big door sound in an episode of Rugrats.

It's a little fuzzy, since I saw it years ago, but I think they were having this pretend adventure or something, they were all robots, and yeah.Sonnyboy wrote:What does a big door sound have to do with Rugrats?

Remember that a lot of the sounds came from a sound library, so it is likely to hear them in other productions (well, those that used this library).
Re: DooM Sound Effects in Other Media
The imp noises are quite often used for camels in movies -- I've heard them a lot. Also the Doom door opening sound is pretty common. Plenty of cartoon shows used it, though I can't remember when and where I heard it way back when.

I like those episodes!

A spell casting sound in "Warriors of Might and Magic" is the BosBrain spawn noise.
Seven minutes and 57 seconds.

I can't remember anymore how often I heard that one in a movie...
In the 90's it was quite frequently used.

Yeah, it is frequently used to accompany explosions that involve a flash-over of flame or something similar.Graf Zahl wrote:I can't remember anymore how often I heard that one in a movie...

I believe I've heard some of the zombieman sounds in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I think I've heard more sounds I recognize from Command & Conquer than Doom.

Doom is the only game I've heard sounds from.
Oh, fun fact, take some of the noises from PS1 or N64 Doom and speed them up to double speed, and they sound like regular people making noises.
