Essential wads
Re: Essential wads
Lights, brightmaps, and PS1 music. I'm a simple fellow.
Re: Essential wads
I think the closest thing I have to such a wad is Perkristian's enhanced Doom SFX wad -- but I don't autoload it and my skins folder is empty anyway.

On (G)ZDoom: Lights.pk3, LOLMUSICS.wad (an music pack mine) and feardecals.wad
On Skulltag: Hires-models.wad, Hires-font.wad, Hires-textures.wad and some skins

Nothing.
Re: Essential wads
A wad I made that adds unique pain and active sounds for the monsters that don't have them, and a wad that replaces the plasma rifles fire sound (always sounded too loud).

Hmm...I thought you would have added the wad with the modifications you made to Doom 2, like the Cyberdemon not firing from the groin.Ghastly_dragon wrote:A wad I made that adds unique pain and active sounds for the monsters that don't have them, and a wad that replaces the plasma rifles fire sound (always sounded too loud).

It gets on my nerves. The console version of it is much, much smoother.Ghastly_dragon wrote:...the plasma rifles fire sound (always sounded too loud).

I try not to auto-run decorate wads. Could have some nasty side-effects.Unknown_Assassin wrote:Hmm...I thought you would have added the wad with the modifications you made to Doom 2, like the Cyberdemon not firing from the groin.
Re: Essential wads
This is part of my "improved vanilla experience" - they are not intended to drastically change the way Doom is played. They are merely what I personally find as improvements that compliment vanilla gameplay.
Code: Select all
nashgore.pk3 // my gore mod
nsplash.pk3 // my custom splash effects
nashweps.pk3 // my vanilla weapon replacements... very vanilla-like, no reloading or realism bullshit. Contains drawn-from-scratch sprites. Still very early WIP
nashmons.pk3 // my monster replacements... mostly just minor behavioural differences and special effects
D2ActPainSounds.zip // Ghastly's improved monster sounds
Re: Essential wads
On GZDoom I load up the lights and brightmaps, but otherwise nothing... and I don't use GZDoom much either

Those sexy high-def sound effects, a heap of skins, a heap of wads with music in them, and for Skulltag a wad that disables that gay Meepy skin.

Re: Essential wads
Okay, well, I'm going to have to make a slight revision here.
I still load ZDoom with nothing extra, but I don't think I could imagine playing map30 on Eternity anymore without accompanying it with http://sl4.poned.com/wasd/map30aaaaa.wad
