1: Don't have an old computer handy that can run half this stuff.jallamann wrote:Solution 1: Use an old computer for oldskooling.wildweasel wrote:Problem 2: My computer doesn't have the ISA port to install this old soundcard. What now?
Solution 2: Emulate. Use DOSBox or something.
2: DOSBox doesn't work with Windows games.
My purpose here is to get OPL-style MIDI working in games like Fire Fight, Sim City 2000, 3D Ultra Pinball and the like.
Re: Best soundfont for Doom?

I think they had a similar problem with this with one of the console Wolfenstein ports--either the SNES, or more likely, Jaguar. Bobby Prince was just going to transfer the MIDI files over raw, but the console's instrument didn't sound like footsteps (like here) so he had to use something different.phi108 wrote:This patch set is pretty good. One problem: The marching footsteps on level 31 use some instrument that doesn't sound like footsteps. Aside from that, Awesome
Re: Best soundfont for Doom?
The footsteps were actually "Gunshot". This worked in the OPL2/3 world, and would have worked in the SNES or Jaguar ports also if there was a sample for it. Writing a Software Midi synth for Doom on either console wouldn't break Doom's Music, as it is the Samples in this case that would determine the music's quality. Perhaps the accuracy of the Midi playpack would factor in here too, but I doubt it.Onslaught Six wrote:I think they had a similar problem with this with one of the console Wolfenstein ports--either the SNES, or more likely, Jaguar. Re: Best soundfont for Doom?
How do you set up the timidity.cfg to work with .sfArk soundfonts?
Re: Best soundfont for Doom?
AFAIK you can't. They must be decompressed from SFARK to SF2.
