i honestly have a hard time telling that's the Super Shotgun from Q2. looks more like an old beta sprite from Demon Eclipse to me. not that that's a BAD thing, mind you.

As far as the USAS-12 goes, just some work rounding off the drum magazine, and you'll have yourself one very kickass automatic shotgun.

I am trying to learn how to shade weapon sprites.

The problem there is mostly that the vast majority of sprites that have been made have a light source coming from the top-left, and not center/front-right.

It is, though the shadows are still too pronounced in the back. (But well, you are learning and stuff.)
This seems like a good example for how the lighting should (somewhat) be:
Image (It's highlighted to the top-left, but otherwise still bright.)
I'm not saying you should follow it religiously, but it stands out like a sore thumb if it's the only thing that has a lot of contrast in its lighting.

Better, though I still don't like the blackness of the back.
Not to mention that the shape in the back is a bit too wide on the left, and that it doesn't look good. (It lacks some kind of "structure" and depth to it.)

But no worries on that last one, it takes some time to get there - and with you just starting it seems successful enough already. :p
