First one looks kind of goofy, the second one is pretty good.

I bet the graphics were different. Does anyone have old screenshots?
I don't believe there are any screenshots from that era whatsoever. These old magazine scans Kaiser dug up have probably the earliest public shots of the game, and they don't look especially different art-style wise... except for one really weird, never-released weapon in one shot.

Kaiser seems to think, based on his code-spelunking, that this was a lightning gun that evolved into the Unmaker. Which makes sense, I guess.

That was very interesting to read. Kind of makes me miss game mags from days long passed. Does anyone know if that pyramid level went into the final game? It's been a long time since I've played Doom 64, and I honestly don't remember.

The aforementioned Doom 64 unreleased gun, ripped from it's JPEG. All it needs now is some cleanup.

Attempted an edit, didn't go down so well. Man, I can't work so well in Paint.Net.

Here's an alternate brown/slightly rusty one.

What it really needs is less contrast.

Thats what im going to try.... just give me couple days since im not going to work on it non-stop.
If anyone else want to give it a try, don't let yourself stop from doing so.
I am still not sure weither the thing becomes grey-ish or blue-ish....?

It looks the same color as the chaingun, so metal blue-ish.

I'd suggest pulling colors from the Super Shotgun's sprite to get the right sorts of shades.

That's a good idea. Not sure if there's an option in Paint.Net which would allow me to do something like that. Anyways I reduced the contrast a little bit for this next edit, maybe a little much? Not sure you decide you guys have a lot more experience than me with this. Also changed the colour still not the right shade of black though but here we go.

EDIT: I realized this before but I think that the spots of white should do with a little editing, I tried toning them down a little but still not much luck.

90% of the details of the original gun pic turned to little more than white flecks on those edits :<

So far, none of the edits look better or even half as good as the scan rip with all its glorious JPEG flaws; that's saying something.
