it is "death" as the game understands it, yes, although some of the monsters can be knocked down prematurely if hit a certain way and may try to get back up.
Without bloody dismemberment I feared the defeating seems too boring unless there is more going on. I will probably make a melting sequence also, which won't be as feasible to draw from additional angles! UNLESS I do it mostly with fragment tossing
the forward flop can be mirrored, but the slide flop would look quite bad! Or at least the body would, since you probably can't walk around it as it is flopping unless you turn on freeze mode. This wasn't well thought out! I don't like to stop things that I have already started even if they are dubious uses of time.

M1919 unfinished. A further developed sprite of it will be considered. With ammo belt, hands and everything. Though i want to say,I'm proud to know i'm gonna finally be able to make a new topic in the resources channel. I'm going to dedicate some of my free time to make cool stuff. Wait for it.

decided to release Quake 1 HD sprite sheet for public use, as i wont be using it in my mod monster mash for a wee bit, and i know people will want to update their old quake sprite sets......

No Axe yet, But has almost every other weapon from Mission pack 1 and 2 as well, minus the flail and graple gun

and here is the Axe, Flail, and grappling gun Quake 1 HD sprites.

The flail is missing a spiked ball for a couple of frames, because it's presumed that's where you'd throw a vole's exploding spike ball shot...

grappling gun? Does it pull the player toward distant objects, or possibly pull the objects closer? Is that viable in zdoom? I made a "gun" that causes the player to jump forward when certain objects are successfully fired at but it is fairly awkward, and this makes me wonder if somebody else has implemented a better version.

I guess because it lacks more code... It was a scraped idea, as it was a lone asset... Use it how you feel it "could" work in doom... Could be a large Bear trap launcher if ya wanted... Heh

here's a couple of sprite sheets I made earlier this year of a uac marine being held hostage (took inspiration from metal slug and brutal doom), and a blood inspired sprite sheet of a quake zombie rising from it's ground
quake zombie rising from ground credit : osjclatchford for the quake zombie sprite
uac marine hostage credits : Captain Toenail, zdoom dev team

Try searching for a 'hookshot' here on forum to see that it's fully possible.

just fyi, twas Me the at made the 'quake zombie' out of the 'zombie fodder' monster. i made it originally for quake; descent into heresy...
