can you fire and load a gun like that with one hand? or it a suspension of disbelief sort of matter with ANY gun somebody is shown wielding two of at once? In which event as protagonist I suppose you only need to hope nobody with three hands comes along!
I might only suggest altering the lighting or texturing somewhat so it doesn't look symmetrical. I only noticed that one metal part was different when I tried mirroring this myself.

Thank you for appreciating it! You have certainly done some impressive things with sprites in and out of this. I look forward to actually IMPLEMENTING some of these soon; the past year has been a mess with outside obligations! Apart from that when redrawing old monsters that I already have the DECORATE stuff done for I can't put in new sprites until all old sprites are gone due to the scale difference.

I'm actually rather surprised to have bumped into you here, I've seen your silly drawings in the past (a good friend of mine used to share them a lot with me years ago) and I'd be pretty interested in seeing you making mods with these characters.

I still have the shading separated from the base image on my end, so I can work on changes to the lighting and texturing (ideally from-scratch wood texturing, which would further distinguish the two).

And to answer the question of "How do you actually USE two rifles at once" - either a Wolfenstein Mutant or someone with telekinetic abilities who can reload things with their mind.

EDIT: I at least got a half-assed wood texture going on here. I suppose that just leaves the metal parts (receiver and sights).

gosh I don't even know how that works! I can rarely figure out shading and forms separately.

I just checked and I believe this is my longest standing forum/social media account, even if it has been somewhat sporadically made use of, so it is perhaps inevitable to see something from me eventually! there is but one single ongoing project that all if this nonsense is part of, though if I had my act together better various ways earlier on, it probably could have been three or more, with all the material I have remade, re-remade or jettisoned entirely through the years. Still I believe something tangible will eventually arise.

Something looks kinda off about the shading on the mirrored metal parts - can't quite put my finger on it...

It looks rather smooth and polished, in contrast to before when it looked grainy and maybe like it had seen a bit of use. It is also more blended into black than before, yet lacking some of the dark reflection of the metal, and also some of the distinctive orange tones. I don't know if that is wrong but it is different. However indeed the two firearms look much further from a state of symmetry now.

I see - speaking of the distinctive orange tones...

I'm also still messing with the mirrored rifle, trying to make it look better in general. I probably ought to redo the lighting on the mirrored stock, though. Oh, and since the spirit moved me, an M-Zero and dual Nishimura Sevens as well (I'm entirely certain that the rail is off-center). EDIT: Dual Savage Jungle Mk.2s, sans bayonets. Not really finished (I took a couple of creative liberties here, like making it look more like a T26 and keeping the wooden furniture), but I'm just having fun with Garands right now.

So I was bored and decided to make a pickaxe. Because yes. Melee variety ahoy!
Might actually go out of my way to make more frames for this one, I'm oddly fond of it.
Credits to Neoworm for the axe I used as a base.

man after my own heart. do all my sprite work in ms paint, older version before finishing it up in GIMP. (mostly for transparency)

if you you do not draw new "diagonal" angles, which other angles do you place repeats of? I presume zdoom doesn't let you simply not have them.
paint shop pro 4 is "free" since it never expires, I would recommend that over regular old microsoft paint any day. I assume you aren't using a tablet pen since old versions of paint wouldn't recognize them, and likewise psp also doesn't.

is it actually possible to change the weapon sprite like that after hitting certain enemies?

If you are missing diagonal angles, you can simply copy one of the other directions or add those as mirrors to the other frames. For example, frames A1, B1, and C1 could also be A1C8, B1D8, C1A8. There's more information on what you can do with sprites here: https://zdoom.org/wiki/Sprite
I personally use Paint.net. With plugins, it recognizes all of the file types that paint shop uses, and has regular updates as well. GIMP is also pretty good, but has a very different interface if you are used to the above.
As for bloodied weapons changing, you can do this with dummy inventory items that are gained upon hitting an enemy. In the weapon's code, you could use jumpifinventory to switch to set of bloodied animation states. A lot of mods use this for weapons which have alternate forms, such as handguns with their slides locked back when emptied.

Oh sure mirroring is easy, that seems like a weird way to do it, though, having the front facing graphics be facing front still but backwards, and even then they can only be mirrored once! that would be so distracting with asymmetrical gun carriers that I can't see the point of skipping diagonals like that. That would look like vintage 1994 simpsons doom.
That inventory bit is new to me, though! You immediately gain the item when striking or do the monsters surreptitiously toss them out with their pain frames?

this is actually something i learnt playing some mods with enemies with only 1 angle EG. BASEA0 etc. when dealing with human sized enemies you generally do not notice the lack of different direction facing sprites in most situations as there usually chasing you/attacking from front (usually while checking A_FaceTarget). becomes much more noticeable when you surprise enemies, and they dont have +LOOKALLAROUND. (simple rotations improve this dramatically)

Vostyok had it right about sprite use but for best results I do not mirror sprites with visible weapons. (creates that weird effect were enemies swap weapon hands)
i use A1 as both A2 and A8, A3 gets mirrored as its from side A3A7, and back A5 as A4 A6 (for first guy i posted you cant see weapon so mirroring back is fine A4A6)
Example base sprites versus simple rotations
(doom)A4 ,A5 ,A6 vs (simple) A5, A5, A5
A3, ,A7 A3A7
A2, A1, A8 A1, A1, A1

This wont be everyone's cup of tea as its kinda the opposite to smooth doom (more like janky doom). also large enemies like Mechs or small enemies like dogs work far better with full rotation set as you move around them or they move around quickly.

also not able to use tablet pen for drawing just use good old fashioned mouse and steady hand. (sometimes with lots of swearing)

Had hour to spare so made full rotations for Blakestone Paratrooper. Feel this is probably more useful for people. Feel free for anyone to use.
original sprite is Blakestone. Backpack is from Majik Monkees image world Paratrooper. and Fg42 sprite by BigDaveHadSomeToo.
