As a rule, "cutesy" games are just not my cup of lapsang souchong. However, I can't deny that's an damned fine sprite. Amazing top quality stuff there, absolutely top quality.
Thank you for appreciating the effort!
I don't mind cute, but the intent is certainly not to be be cute+sy, a word I associate with stuff that is drawn poorly on purpose to make it marketable, such as the graphics increasingly seen in internet error pages or the discord messaging program. In this case it is just the way I am capable of doing it! Which believe it or don't was greatly inspired by heretic and hexen, which are cute in their way without necessarily intending it. And I make it without a specific audience in mind, just the hope of one day getting it all done and moving on finally. This particular creature is meant to be dopey and minimally dangerous; legitimate threats aren't quite as stupid.

I also hate "cute" art, but that's not how I'd categorize those sprites at all. I think they look fantastic!

That is very lovely :) smooth animation, nice tail waving to complement the movement, looks very pro.

Cute or maybe, simpler designs tend to lack detail, uniqueness and most important, liveliness. I think all of them can be resolved by making smooth animation or extreme expression.

I'd say having only smooth animation is enough to make such design great. So yeah, it seems i'm the only one who loves cute stuff on doom, i'll look forward to your work!

well thank you and anyone else for the support! With fairly detailed environments, or at least wall textures, the effect is less distracting, I think. My goal is not to emulate 3d "mascot platformers" since I never liked those much.
I wish I had kept this less to myself years ago; I might be further along with it now.

I don't want to seem like a shill (because I am not getting anything for the endorsement, and also I remember how the guy who made Deepsea was sometimes received), but in aseprite I was able to draw those side by side, on separate layers, within a single document, on top of a previous monster's graphics, to hurry the process along, and then export them as a gif exactly as they were. getting them into a wad will be a bit more tedious. And of course touching them up later will mean I can't easily update the gif but the gif is not of great importance.
it only cost $15 when I acquired it in 2017, it costs $20 now which is still great for something that powerful.

So we've finally explained the chainsaws.

It is now my headcanon that Doomguy is a keen lover of topiary.

Nice work :D

Doom3 explained that they arrived on Mars as a result of a mix-up with an order that was supposed to be for jack-hammers.

Personally, I prefer the topiary explanation.

The sprites look cool. :)

Trees? The property of UAC? So does that mean they actually managed to terraform all across the Mars? :O

Those would complement a Versailles-type garden maze like in Cleimos2 pretty well. Or maybe a flower arrangement spelling out the full words.
