Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
This looks really rad. One thing that really helps with trying to nail the doom look is Contrast. Use Multiply and Overlay layers for shading/lighting.BioRenegat wrote:Hello everybody, recently I decided to take spriting more seriously, and at this point I managed to cook up this creature (it's utilizing doom palette). Obviously I need to add some final layer of polish to it, since currently it looks rough, so, I was wondering, what could I do to make it look more doom stylised (well, or just simply better in overall)? I still can't really get hang of this aspect.
Messed around with it for like a minute in photoshop so you can see what I mean. Not a perfect job but it's just an example. It's a really high-rez sprite, so I'd look at the Arachnotron/Spidermastermind/Archvile sprites as a reference as I believe those were made from actual physical models while all the other monsters were hand drawn.

Possible bald version, more relative to his Doom 3 counterpart, might happen.
Very nice, both of you! If one of you can send me the set as individual sprites (it's been a long time since I've cut a sheet and would take me a while), I can code it up and add it to the pack on R667.Skelegant wrote:Very nice Just needs some lighting on the firing frames

Does anybody know who made this? If so is this a thread where we can ask?

I can't stress enough my gratitude, you really helped me out to get started with spriting, thank you. I did some work with this enemy, basically, I decreased height of the monster, since I forgot to accommodate for the doom aspect ratio correction, also, I traced model, and added some shading (by the way, thanks for your example, Pandut, that was a really helpful reference to me) and light effects for the shooting states. At this point, I feel like it's in a pretty decent shape, but I will do some more testing, before releasing these finished sprites.silentw wrote: Never thought I'd see people using Warframe models for Doom sprites, interesting.
Your pixel aspect ratios are off - there are very large square 'blood' bits in the death, but the rest of the sprite is very high-res. I would suggest tracing over it after resizing it down, as it is quite busy and doesn't have a clear silhouette.
