[SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
I think discussing ripping stuff from other games on a forum that features multiple one to one remakes of older games is kinda mute. Ion Maiden was kinda special case in my eyes because you can probably recreate the complete game experience in GZDooM and seriously hurt any potential sales of the game itself since it's not even out yet. You can hardly do the same with DooM Eternal or Scorn. Remaking the guns in sprite format is just kinda cuteand it's going to happen anyway.

It was more the fact that some people were referring to Ion Maiden as a big bucket of assets rather than a commercial project not even in the download stage.
Remaking a game is one thing. Using assets intended to promote an upcoming project is another. Regardless of intent, a hobbyist's innocent recreations can also legitimately be seen by others as "stealing".

Even if it was, "it was a joke" is nothing more than a statement, not an excuse nor a justification. In fact, it not only doesn't at all protect a person from any flak they get from what they said, but usually makes it worse because it just makes them look like a twat that mocks others without the slightest bit of empathy.JadedLexi wrote:No, it really wasn't.ramon.dexter wrote:Oh, for god's sake, that was a JOKE!Vostyok wrote:It was more the fact that some people were referring to Ion Maiden as a big bucket of assets rather than a commercial project not even in the download stage.

Not sure where you got that from, but no, not to my knowledge.Assassin of Purity wrote:Ion Maiden re-used assets?
The problem was people saying "woo new resources to rip!" when the game hasn't even been properly released yet. Considering A) it's a commercial project, and B) some authors of the game are alumni of this and other classic gaming communities, that's a real slap in the face to the developers, just looking at their project as a free-to-use resource dump.

Ooh. Well someone said something about Ion Maiden being a big bucket of assets. I assumed they meant that it took assets from others.Caligari87 wrote:Not sure where you got that from, but no, not to my knowledge.Assassin of Purity wrote:Ion Maiden re-used assets?

They should just make it so that their assets can't be legally used in other games.

Re: [SPRITES] Spriting Carnival!!
i mean they are already copyrighted, and neither voidpoint or 3d realms has granted a license for use outside of the game, so this is already the case. it's just that the people who wanted to rip all these resources simply don't care. Voidpoint/3DR (whoever owns the rights to the game's resources) have the legal rights to go after anyone who does so.
